Google TV, the company’s first serious foray into the living room, hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. That doesn’t mean Google has given up, though. Far from it. The latest YouTube for Android is now rolling out to folks. This version, v2.3.4 now adds a +1 button to the mix and you can now add annotations as well. For videos you're not wanting to watch right away but rather when you get home on say your computer or Google TV -- there is now a watch later queue that has been added. According to a study of over 16,000 mobile YouTube users conducted by Google, 75% of respondents said that mobile is their primary way of accessing YouTube. At first glance, that figure may come as no surprise - after all, how shocking is at that a survey of mobile users finds that they watch a lot of YouTube Mobile? However, it's actually a rather telling number. For some of us, watching YouTube on a mobile device is an additional way to watch video, not the primary way. But as it turns out, for a large majority of mobile video users, it's completely the opposite. There is no longer an option to turn on closed caption (CC) which gives you subtitles. This was very useful, please bring it back!!!

Please change the error from 'sorry, this video cannot be played' to 'this video can be played, you know it can because you saw the first 25 seconds of it, but YouTube can't make an app good enough to actually make it to the end'. At least you'd be honest.

Won't load videos with 4G LTE on. Loads fine when switched to 3G. Huge flaw, needs to be fixed. I shouldn't have to switch every time I want to watch a video..

Why can Google not make a good app. Especially for their own OS. Every time I watch a vid on my wifi, which is faster than my 3G speeds on my phone it just constantly buffers with the vid never playing. It plays fine on 3G

It constantly force closes on my phone and takes several minutes to boot up again. And 75% of the time it doesnt load things like suscribers, descriptions, channel views, video count, likes/dislikes, do I even need to go on. And the feature where you can play videos without your phone on is broken.....

The biggest problem I'm having with it is that if I lock my screen, it turns of the music. I quite fancied it when I could lock it and still listen to the music. Also, since I got the uptude, I'm supposed to be able to watch 3-D videos. I have a Galaxy S and it doesn't work. It just puts a double screen or something. I would quite appreciate it if you could fix these problems.

The constant freezing that began after the last update makes me want to punch babies. Its my fourth Android phone and this app never worked properly on any of them. Videos keep freezing, if you try to fast forward or rewind, you will likely have to downloading from scratch, it doesn't run in the background (can't buffer while you do something else).

I'm giving this app a two because when I first got this phone, youtube was great. One time in florida I got excellent connection at a summer camp. Now? It sucks. It's not bad, buy the profile doesn't syncs well with the app, the app only allows me to see 7 out of my 30 subscriptions. Also, it tells me to sub. them when I already have. And most important, I ALWAYS like to see the top comments (they're usually funny it give useful info). I don't get if it exists, why take out a good feature? Same goes with replying directly to other comments.

This app used to be good. When locking the screen the music would still play. All good. AND THEN... the update. I cant watch more than three vids until I get the "unexpectedly crashed" message and now have to back track through the vids. Please fix!!

The setup makes no sense... The app should have a simpler interface based on channels, not some endless list of videos. there is no customization, no work in the interface. With channels like nerdist & geek and sundry putting out quality content, the app is clumsy and useless to keep up with it. Sad

Plays the SAME VIDEO no matter what I choose. From 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 GB, 3.0 HC, now 4.0 ICS. Uninstalled, reinstalled, nothing works. It seems this is not an uncommon issue in some regions but Google has been ignoring feedback on it. IF you have the same issue please post here so others can see it, and hopefully Google will be moved to some action.

This app is awesome but it needs a few more features like thumbs up on comments, top comments, a place where you can see all comments, an option to change the background to the original white. This is just a few, but I know it is just an app so it can go only so far but otherwise it does what it says and its great.

Wow. It takes 15 minutes to load a 2 minute video?? Really? -__- I shouldnt have even updated the stupid thing, all it did was make it slower and pretty much useless. It shouldnt take a bazillion dang years to load a couple minutes.

It was cool at first,no problem besides the usual force close. But after a while (Only recently) The videos which never buffered unless the video was starting,just started buffering HEAVILY. 10 seconds of a video,then 3 minutes of buffering!

I opened it yesterday... now it force closes.... WHY???? I hate this. And also the lock screen shuts off the music. That was the best feature. Please fix it! --update-- the newest update is horrible. It always gives me an error message. I see other Droid x2 users are getting the same message. Its verrrrrrry annoying. PLEASE FIX IT!!!! I have all of my fave music on a playlist, and I listen to it everyday I would like for it to work. To fix it, I reboot my phone. I don't like doing that... -.-

-EDIT Google has fixed its ap's atrocious problems- The YouTube problems have been fixed, and it works well. Ads are annoying, and there are a few bugs. -Original review below- This most recent update had made the YouTube impractical and unusable. Subscriptions have between replaced, sometimes even removed, with recommendations and "most popular" videos. Videos freeze and stop regularly. This defeats the purpose of an app, and this needs to be fixed immediately.

I loved this app. The problem is that my primary use for it was to replace my computer at night for sound clips for sleeping. I could shut off the screen and have no light to disturb me. Now when i lock the screen, the video stops. I wish i could revert back because that's the only thing that I've noticed a change with and it completely takes away the convenience it used to provide. The app is great overall, but that's what i mostly used it for, and now it doesn't really help.

If I want to listen to music on it while walking I have to hold the phone without letting anything in my pocket touch the screen. Screen lock stops the videos, so does checking texts and everything else. Most music on YouTube has a picture as a video or something so in general this app is useless. When I so use it I'm home and may as well be on my computer

I just want you to correct 1 thing and not only you will get 5star reviews but make us much more happier: When inputing some words in the search bar, after we click search we cannot change anything and we have to rewrite the whole thing just because of 1 extra word. And also, please add that when we lock our screen the video stops.

Just a fyi, videos load at least 5 times faster if u go into your applications in your settings and clear the catch for youtube. Do this like every day or more if used more and you will see major improvements. GOOD DAY :-)

Sometimes videos have multiple buffers(not fully rendered at beginning of the video). Now comments, they need to allow us to reply to people, that is the most important thing, for convience we should be able to scroll while writing a comment, to see the other comments while writing one.

Nothng wrng with vid playbak. UI is sexy. Uploading and managing vids is a breez. Just needs mor. Can't rspnd 2 cmnts directly, only posting ur own originals. No way to search by anythng other than video names, or look at other people's chanels. Its easy to just browz, but smtms its RLY hard to find a specific video cuz of things i mentioned above. U can't use subtitles if the video was uploaded with one, which is a serious flaw. Som vids on youtube arnt in the app.

It crashes all the time, buffers all the time, lags a lot, and now there are some videos that play ads that play literally half a second then buffer, and repeat that process for the rest of the ad. The video loading is significantly faster. The hd is super clear everything is great! Excep for the fact that I can't lock my phone.. which I hate,because I have a samsung epic 4g has a giant screen and not being able to lock th screen without the video stopping is horrible and it kills my battery atleast put an optional lock in the settings

I like how when the marketplace got changed to Google play they set this for auto updates without telling me. Now when I lock my screen the video stops playing. I used to love that feature for playing music. Thanks a bunch Google play! How do I get the factory installed YouTube back on my phone?

PROS: Able to log into own channel & view subscriptions, playlists, etc. Able to create & save playlists. Can switch from normal quality to high. Can rate videos. Can view comments. CONS: Can't search for channels. Buffering can sometimes be slow. Can't load/play in background. Can't click on a username on comments. Commenting is very limited.

Does not play the video when I hit on it. I have to hit the HQ OFF and ON button so it could load and play the video, also the video does not load all the way threw when I was watching it. It's just stop and I have to hit the HQ OFF and ON button again so it could load where the video have stopped playing. My Android web browser on YouTube web site load way faster than the YouTube app version 2.4.4. I have to downgrade my YouTube app back to my stock version 2.1.6 where I have it before that is far better then 2.4.4. Version 2.1.6 could play and load the video all the way threw. It's a great app for watching videos, but the lock n pause feature I don't really like. It was better just to play the videos while I locked my androids screen. Hopefully that will be changed soon. Other than that, great app.

There several issues with this. One is why can't you listen to videos with the screen turned off anymore. It was such a good feature. Another is that many of the videos which I try to watch aren't playing because they are an "Unsupported Video Format." Please fix! HTC Wildfire.

As Google do not provide any proper feedback facility for android youtube app I will give a 1 star review. Point 1- why is the text available for comments limited to a specific number of characters? Point 2 - why is there a "comment limit" seemingly reached after commenting on 2 or 3 videos. Don't expect a response. It's a great product but it lacks 2 things. 1, if you have subscriptions and scroll through them then watch one, then back out, you now have to scroll aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way back though the list again instead of going back to the original spot. 2, if you have a flip phone and flip the screen up, the video gets smaller and produces a black border. The last version crashed approximately 95% of the time. This build fixed that issue on the Atrix. Thanks! However there is a new issue with a video stoping when moving to different times in the video. When you back out the videa remains semi-transparent when you reopen the app and play another video, even after stopping and restarting the app. You have to reboot the phone. Occasionally the screen will get stuck in the two.frozen overlapping videos. When this happens you have to pull the battery.

Google, there is an obnoxious flaw in this software that's been bugging me. When I'm watching a video and something steals focus, or I want to watch the video again, why does it have to rebuffer the video completely? The data was already there, why do I need to waste more bandwidth? Why isn't the buffer persistent until the next video? This issue could use some attention as it can become highly annoying.

I didn't think anything could be worse than YouTube itself, but I seem to have found it. In the past two years, this app has had no improvement. Constant connection issues, rotation issues, long delays in rotation often resulting in accidental pausing, never ending buffering (what is this, real player circa 1999?) Many videos do not play on it, a lot cannot be played on mobile, etc. This app is a complete disappointment. If there was something better, I would pay for it. Take the hint, Google.

This app needs tons of work. It wont cache videos. If you play a video and then go to replay it, It will reload it from the beginning. Also, It will only buffer a short percentage beyond the already loaded content. You cannot simply click play, pause it and wait for the video to load, it wont buffer all the way to 100% unless it is actively playing. This app is a joke. If you have favorite videos, I suggest getting the chrome extension and downloading them from the site and playing them at your leisure later on. App is useless unless you are on 3G or better.

The newest update (March 2012), despite the gorgeous UI and HD, still doesn't fix the problems. I switched back to the old factory-installed version and the videos load X105 times faster. That means it's not a wifi problem. Come on, fix the buffering....

It works fine on my EVO 4g but it is sometimes a little slow and I still can not turn off my screen and listen to a video (I want to turn off the screen if the video is just a song) EDIT: I tried some more vids and it was very glitchy and it would even buffer when buffering was not necessary.

I am not one to waste time writing reviews but, I am frustrated enough with this app so here goes. I will start small- Random play is not so random. Nice EQ and overall UI. I had app (unlocked full version) on my Droid 2- some moderate bugs evident. Now I have a new Droid Razr Maxx. Force closes every time. Have tried full uninstall of both trail app and unlocker (twice)- same problem persists. Hoping for an update SOON. If not then, I wasted $ buying the full version unlocker.

It goes slow, and even if you connect wifi, it goes slow. Another thing I strongly dislike, is the ridiculous buffering. Other phones arnt as slow, so why mine? (Samsung Replenish.) Youtube apps should be the same. c; but I do like the fact, to have it on my phone, but watching something had to be worth it.

This is a great interface for YouTube. The only problem I have with it is all the videos that are not available on mobile. Why is that even an option to the uploaders? I know a few people who just have a smartphone and no home Internet connection who can't watch these videos at all.
It works fine on my cm7 flashed nook color. The new 2.4.4 update hangs up or runs real slow. So glad I have TB for backup.

I like the ui but I have some major gripes. you can't turn off the screen without it pausing your video. I watch youtubers that just get in front of a Mic and just talk for 10 mins and I hate having to waste battery life having the screen lit abduction having me accidentally hitting the screen. plus the setting menu is horrid. also you can't see any of the videos you liked only playlists and favorites. that brings up another point. why isn't there a shuffle setting for playlists?

I can't usually watch YouTube videos on the mobile site with my phone. Video won't render and all I see is color lines. Running on Droid X2 Cyanogenmod 7.2. As a work around I use this app. Works fine, doesn't usually freeze and buffering isn't too long. Will rate 5 stars when you let me listen to music while my screen is off like I used to be able to do. The lag is finally gone and I tried out the March 1st update on 3G instead of WiFi. Before the update it was constantly buffering on my mid-range home high speed and the massive pipe at uni. Now I'm sitting here on painfully slow 3G and nothing is buffering anymore.

I don't know what the latest update did to my Huawei Ideos but it caused my phone to restart after installing it. It did the same thing when I used 1TapCleaner to delete the phone's cache and app history. Reverting back to the previous version fixed it, but others may experience this somewhere down the line and I encourage Google to go through the code and see why my phone rebooted for no reason on two occasions.

I have Samsung Galaxy S. Pre-installed YouTube worked fine. I updated it with this. Now videos starts, plays for few seconds, halts for a second and then starts again with no sound. It was same with all videos. Now it won't uninstall. But eventually made my way to uninstall the updates. Hope Google will update this soon with bugfixes. To uninstall: Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>YouTube>Uninstall Updates.

Tried to update multiple times on HTC G2. Had to uninstall each time. This update caused my download speed to go from tollerable to nonexistant. It's like going from DSL spees back to dial up. Each vid takes a full 3 minutes to start playing and stopps to buffer after every 15 seconds of play. Factory instalation works superbly.

I have Samsung Galaxy S. Pre-installed YouTube worked fine. I updated it with this. Now videos starts, plays for few seconds, halts for a second and then starts again with no sound. It was same with all videos. Now it won't uninstall. But eventually made my way to uninstall the updates. Hope Google will update this soon with bugfixes. To uninstall: Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>YouTube>Uninstall Updates.

Tried to update multiple times on HTC G2. Had to uninstall each time. This update caused my download speed to go from tollerable to nonexistant. It's like going from DSL spees back to dial up. Each vid takes a full 3 minutes to start playing and stopps to buffer after every 15 seconds of play. Factory instalation works superbly.

[Quick fix] As you all may be aware the latest Gmail app does not grant 3rd party applications to work with Gmail. Youtube is indeed a Google app which is apart of the Gmail family and as you know Youtube syncs with google. The Google developers are indeed aware of this major set back and are working around the clock to fix this. There is a temp fix for the Youtube errors as well as Gmail delayed sync errors. **UPDATE** It appears the youtube app is not working well with the latest version of Gmail.
