Recently, Wolfram Alpha LLC dropped the official WolframAlpha app into the market. It is one of my favorite services and I purchased it ($1.99) as soon as it came out. For those not familiar, this is a clip from the "about" page of WolframAlpha to give you some idea of what this is all about: Wolfram|Alpha's long-term goal is to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone. We aim to collect and curate all objective data; implement every known model, method, and algorithm; and make it possible to compute whatever can be computed about anything. Our goal is to build on the achievements of science and other systematizations of knowledge to provide a single source that can be relied on by everyone for definitive answers to factual queries. That is a pretty lofty goal, you might say. Well, they've done a very, very good job of working toward

Wolfram Alpha launched a version of its Web site in app form on Wednesday, which costs $1.99 to download from the Android Market. Although users can still access the Wolfram Alpha Web site for free, the app includes localization and a data-entry screen absolutely crammed with formulae, to more easily facilitate mathematical queries that hearken back to app's "Mathematica" roots. The app also ships with localization features, so that users can enter queries like "sky map" and the app will return local results. From my experience with it (and trying some of the suggestions from the blog post announcing it) the $1.99 is justified; users will pay for convenience, nothing more. While localization is a nice feature, for example, users can enter localization information into the search field (such as "sky map Cupertino CA") to receive localized results. And speech input is now supported in the latest implementations of Android. For

The Wolfram Alpha team has released an official Android application for their popular “computational knowledge engine” into the market for $1.99. For those unfamiliar with Wolfram Alpha, it is a program that calculates answers to complex scientific and mathematical problems in an instant. Simply type in a mathematical problem, chemical equation, or food item into the search bar, and Wolfram alpha will solve the math problem, balance the chemical equation, and provide detailed nutritional information for the selected food. And that’s just a sampling of what Wolfram Alpha can do. Basically, any question you can think of, Wolfram Alpha will likely be able to quickly and correctly find the answer for you. It’s every high school and college student’s dream. The Wolfram Alpha Android application brings the power and sophistication of the Wolfram Alpha website to the Android platform for users on the go. Though Android users have been able to

Back in September the development team behind Wolfram Alpha, the computational knowledge engine developed by British-born physicist and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram, announced to the world that come October 6 the Wolfram Alpha Android App would be released to the public. “The Wolfram|Alpha App for Android will be available for $1.99 (US) on October 6, 2010 in the T-Mobile Channel for download on the G2, as well as globally through Android Market. The app is compatible with devices running Android 1.6 and later,” announced the Wolfram Alpha team back then. Advertising For $1.99 you will get an app that can do the following: - The app is connected to Wolfram Alpha’s supercomputing cloud. This allows it to bring the Wolfram Alpha knowledge engine experience to the mobile user. - It can be used by pretty much anyone, but the team at Wolfram Alpha highlighted these categories of users in particular: financial

Worth Reading? A new computational search engine app called WolframAlpha is going to land in the Android Market today. The app has been available on other OS’ previously. The Android version will sell for the same $1.99 that the iPhone version goes for. Users can download the app and then search ten trillion different knowledge facts and tens of thousands of computational models using voice keywords. This app is a bit confusing as to the purpose it serves. The app lets you get all sorts of numerical data on science, engineering, health, nutrition, and tons more. Folks on a diet for instance can type in a specific food and get nutritional facts. It also works sort of like the Google calculator where you can enter a math problem and get the answer. The app first hit the iPhone with a big price of $50 and failed. It presumably sells better at

By: Nicholas Kolakowski 2010-09-29 Article Rating: / 2 Wolfram Alpha, a search engine designed to offer definitiveand usually numericalanswers rather than links, will launch a native Google Android application to accompany the upcoming T-Mobile G2 smartphone Oct 6. The application is similar in function and appearance to the versions already available for the Apple iPhone and iPad. The Wolfram Alpha App for Android is compatible with Android versions 1.6 and above, and reportedly costs $1.99. It includes a customized virtual keyboard with easy access to various mathematical symbols and Greek characters. It also takes advantage of Android's voice search capabilities and uses built-in GPS to provide local information such as temperature and weather. Type in the name of a particular food, and Wolfram Alpha offers a nutritional label tailored to fit the smartphone's screen. The search engine will also change to landscape mode if you turn the device on its side. Those features

Wolfram Alpha announced a native Android app is on its way to the Google mobile operating system, Android. It is expected about a year after they introduced the Wolfram Alpha iPhone app. The launch date is October 6, 2010 and they are working with T-Mobile to launch the app. The app will be available for download on the T-Mobile Channel for download on the G2 and of course on the Android Market. It will work with devices running Android 1.6 and later. This time, Wolfram Alpha set the initial price to $1.99. Back when they first launched the iPhone version the price was $49.99, but they lowered it to $1.99 months later and offered refunds.
