Winamp for Android is an excellent music management app for users looking to do a bit more with their music. Two features that especially stand out are the built-in Shoutcast radio and the simple-yet-full-featured interface. Winamp doesn't have the most advanced-looking user interface: The main screen consists of eight rectangular buttons arranged in a grid. Still, without being overcomplicated, this app lets you perform just about any type of music management action you might want to. There's no question that iTunes dealt some heavy blows to WinAmp over the years. But with a new Android app that aims to manage music between the smartphone and a computer, perhaps it's time for WinAmp to make a comeback. WinAmp for Android is out of beta, TechCrunch reports. I remember when my parents first got the internet at our house in the mid-nineties and I learned how to download mp3s. I used an awesome program called Winamp to play these mp3 files on my computer. Since then, I had totally forgotten about Winamp. As far as I knew, Winamp was gone. It had been overshadowed by the other major media playing applications (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc…) Now, Winamp is in the news again, releasing an app for the Android operating system. Winamp is by far one of the most popular media players on the planet and has been around for years; I can remember using it way back on Windows 95 and thinking how cool it was that I could download skins to completely change its appearance. It’s currently available for only 2.1 and higher devices but is being touted as “a complete media management solution” with a pretty impressive feature list. Update - Still no tablet specific ICS version (almost 6 months after ICS was released to developers). Have to drop a star for that. Its inexcusible that the only options we have are to stretch (looks terrible) or fill the screen (which is a total waste of space). Come on Nullsoft... Lets get a tablet version done. Other than that......I have been kicking the llama's a@@ since day one (I'm talking the PC version day one). This program is great. Very intuitive, responsive and just a general joy to behold. It is what iTunes should be. I have no problem plunking down 5 bucks for this. The only other problem I have with it is the randomizer feature isnt very random. I have only about 300 songs on my tablet and Droid X but no matter what, it plays the same ones every day. As for a feature I would like to see More settings options such as screen sleep suspend.

The pro version is worth it for the equalizer alone if you have a quality headset or sound system to hook it up to. Wish the lock screen player was a little smaller. Works fine though.

Overall good app. Needs some work that would greatly improve user experience. Couple things that drives me crazy. 1)too easy to accidently re-arrange items in the play queue, especially when trying to scroll. 2) Show artist/album views are not sorted. Grrrr!! Winamp users would likely have huge lists like myself. On the plus side, features like Replay gain, EQ, Shoutcast and and wireless sync make Winamp top dog. ;)

I really love Winamp but I'm seriously tired of being downgraded after each update. I purchased the Pro version (from within an app) and today I'm told to buy it again. I lost all Pro features and am stuck with adds. DISAPPOINTED.

You need to buy this to use equalizer without knowing what difference it would provide from my stock music player. By the way. Instead of music customization what else a music player can provide? If you can't provide it free then don't make a free version at all.

I LOVE the small footprint the pc version leaves on my screen. Though Im Very satisfied with the android version. Id like to see that same small, controllable interface on android. Perhaps a trick notification window control!! Yeah! Pause,play,nxt,prev. controls.or a widget for sd mounted sw. Uses 25 to 30% cpu, poweramp uses 19-26%. Note to dev.

Bluetooth controls do not work properly with Ice Cream Sandwich devices. Using skip and play controls from bluetooth devices (i.e. headphones) will cause the default android music player to kick in and winamp will turn off. Please fix, until then, it's annoying to use while working out and impossible to (safely) use while driving.

Sure it plays my files, but if I want to use my tab for anything other than a media player and I minimize winamp to the taskbar or whatever, if I try and reopen it by clicking the icon and clicking the little window that pops up it says some kind of unexpected error has occurred and I have to force close the application. Maybe it's just not compatible with my device but I am seriously flummoxed as to why it keeps doing this, but if there's a fix or I'm doing something wrong I'd really like to know.

On pc winamp is my most trusted media player...the android version on the other hand has horrible performance. Leaving out the fact that the widget is cramped 'lets say I have large fingers' the app force closes more times than it plays a song.

it crashes everytime at start up. i'm unable to user a product i payed for. please fix it asap. UPDATE: after reading many reviews reporting similar problems, one suggested to uninstall and reinstall. i did it and it is working again as before, at least for now. i'm keeping the low rating, as this is not as it should work. still miss a feature: to enqueue all search results at once.

I listen to podcasts for 8 hours a day at work, when I get home I have half a charge left. Six months of this battery life. Then after installing winamp I'm at 50% 2 hours into my day. This happens to days in a row. I checked setting to see where the battery went. It was winamp. And I wasn't even using it, I was using a podcast client. I know there are a lot of flac players out there but, this one seems to be easier and smoother. One thing - I did have to reboot my (old?) EVO 4G v.2.3.5 before it would find & play flac but, that's a small price to pay to hear music as it was ment to be!!! 5 Stars. PS: sorry guys about the ogg comment - after reboot it works just fine. FLAC & OGG in one player, and a useable interface to boot - VERY WELL DONE.

Very good and intuitive music player with lots of functions. Easy to use. Better than the player in Galaxy S2. The downfall is that it shuts down when I make a call but never restarts after the call.

Crash closed once, but I noticed most apps do that when exiting out then back in from the widget.. awesome app this one here is.. can play music on the phone/sd card and you have acess to shoucast radio stations.. awesome sound quality too :) If you want a simple equalizer, search and download Music Volume EQ. I had an Android and just recently switched to Android. I really like my ANdroid phone but I was missing a music manager like iTunes where I could organize my music, playlists etc on my computer and then sync it to my phone. I tried Google Music manager but that is mostly to just back up your songs on the cloud and access them while online. I didn't want that so I kept looking and finally downloaded Winamp. I thought it was good until I downloaded the Mac App for my computer and did a wireless sync. I was blown away. This app is THE BEST.

As a long-time Winamp user for PC, I was excited for a portable version. I was sorely disappointed. HARD CRASHES. Often. Need I say more? The playlist functionality is awful, with no way to reorder it, sorted only by some strange and arcane structure known only to the warlocks who crafted it.

I'm sadly underwhelmed by this player for Android. i'm not sure if my high expectations are to blame for my reaction, but i really find its UI confusing and at times impossible. the settings are too scattered, and i have a hard time understanding how to use my fave aspect of it on my pc, the que option. there's much room for improvement. i hope it gets better soon. but for now, i'm staying with my stock android samsung player (Galaxy Y)

Why Nullsoft hasn't put in an option to Play Folder or an option to have Winamp keep trying to continually connect to Shoutcast stations when connection drops momentarily is beyond me. It tries maybe 3-4 times then just stops. Do you people have any clue how annoying, not to mention dangerous that is in a car and you're just listening and it drops, then stops trying!? Then you've got 2 choices; sit in silence or fumble with your $%&* phone, go through all the menus to get your station to reconnect!

Extremely versatile. Had a few issues in the beginning but one reinstall and now everything smooth as butter. Wireless sync a bit buggy because it doesn't recognize songs synced via cable thus copies them twice onto phone. Other than that exceptionally well performing, like the desktop version

Update - Today I did an in-App purchase of the pro version of Winamp on my tablet. It updated within seconds of charging my credit card. 2 hours later, I still do not see the update to Pro on my cell phone. I dont think I have to pay again, and I certainly wont pay again. Not sure if this is Google, or Winamp but if I dont see an update to the one on my cell phone by the end of the day, I will drop a star. I love the app but the pro license reverted to basic last month then mysteriously became pro only to revert back to basic AGAIN! If i try to repurchase the app again I receive an error from google play and im told the my request is updating. Im least impressed with the factthat there isn'a way to get a refund or talk to tech support and if there was what would i say? We live in the modern age of rip offs! Maybe if i pine for change long enough the winamp will revert to pro again!

Tried out the app. I have to say that I like it. I only had it crash once, and the widget reminds me of minimized winamp on my desktop. The best part for me though was being able to assign priority of my headset controller.

I have used winamp on my PC since 2.0, and I love it. But this phone app is atrocious. Maybe it is my phone (T-Mobile G2), I don't know. I actually have the pro version but can't post there. I use my phone as a mp3 player for my car. Here are my issues: 1. Crashes (force close) all the time. It generally crashes at least once during my 20 minute commute to work and once on the way home. Crashed 4 times during a 2 hr drive. 2. Takes 1-2 minutes every time I close the app to reopen it. I don't know what it is doing, but I hit the lightning bolt on the app and it just sits there for 1-2 minutes, usually crashes, then opens the next time I hit it. 3. Claims FLAC support but my FLAC files do not show up in my library. I must add them from folders manually. 4. I can't load playlists that I've saved with paths to my SD card in it. 5. Desktop transfer randomly turns on and drains entire battery in under 2 hours. I had to check it off permanently and turn it on manually when I want to send things to it. Otherwise it'd drain the battery even though I wasn't doing anything. switched to poweramp.

I've got 20 GB's of songs and would rather carry my SD card with me rather than leave them in the cloud - I don't always have an internet connection for streaming or downloading and my Sammy Tab 10.1 is only 16 GB. So please add a folder scan/use function (aside from default music folder in root) just like Poweramp and you'll get some more stars.

I love Winamp, been using it for 14 years now, on my PC at home and work, on my garage computer, even as the primary music player on my carputer. it is so integral to my music library that I have created numerous custom skins for it, needless to say BIG FAN!! When I bought my smart phone Winamp was among the first apps installed, and I love it, but how the F**k do you stop it? There is no stop or off button that I can find. the only method that I know of is to exit back to the phones settings menu and stop the app that way. no matter how much I love the amp, that is WAAAAAAY too much hassle for me. really dropped the ball on this one! Still getting 5 stars due to 14 years of satisfaction!

I downloaded this app with great hopes of being able to sync wirelessly with Winamp on my PC desktop. Despite Play stating "This app is compatible with your Vodafone Samsung GT-I9001." It just doesn't work. Your desktop will see the device but won't connect to it. When I browsed the Winamp forum there seems to be a long thread of people with Samsungs with the same issue and zero response from the developer. Very disappointing.

I have been a Winamp fan for many years. I have used it on PCs since around 2000. I was also very happy to see it ported to Android. It is the music player of choice on my phone. That being said, it is still not well suited to Android tablets. It sometimes crashes on my Honeycomb tablet. Also, tablets often have internal memory and SD cards ("external" memory) and sometimes even support USB memory (as mine does), but Winamp only recognizes music on the internal memory. I hope this app will be updated soon

All my music was cross-fading (or something like it; there was no gap between songs, but any beat that carried over between tracks would skip) and I had no way to turn it off. :/

Widget is buggy & needs 2 or 3 presses before it starts to play. Randomizer is bad & replays songs that I've heard less then 5 tracks ago. Some songs play too often while others don't play at all. Doesn't control mic headset properly even though the option is selected, the stock music player starts to play instead. Manual lyric add & notification bar controls would have been nice.

I really only downloaded this app b/c it offered free wireless syncing on osx. Found it highly unstable when the desktop app gets stressed. Adding your whole music collection....crash. Wifi sync more than 5 songs...crash. switching wifi networks....crash. Hopefully, this gets resolved soon. Shame. Really is a nice alternative to stock Google player.

Winamp seems to have issues with other apps that require sound and bluetooth, specifically Google Maps. When I try to use both in my car, Winamp goes crazy. A sleeker lock screen feature would also be nice.

Good App, excellent feature set, but it uses a bunch of ram and way to much processor, in short it is a little bloaty for mid range devices, probably great for higher end devices though. The buttons are not finger friendly at least not on a SK4G, bigger buttons would be nice. If you are looking for desktop equivalent functionality on your mobile device, then this is what you want. If you are looking for a simple and small footprint audio player then look, elsewhere.

Overall good app but needs some work that would greatly improve user experience Couple things that drives me crazy. 1)too easy to accidently re-arrange items in the play queue, especially when trying to scroll. 2) Show artist/album views are not sorted. Grrrr!! Winamp users would likely have huge lists like myself. On the plus side, features like Replay gain, EQ, Shoutcast and and wireless sync make Winamp top dog. ;)

Great disappointment. The Windows version has a well-deserved position of the most popular feature-heavy audio player. And the Android version is very basic, won't even play MPC audio format, won't play folders, you have to waste time on creating playlists. But the most annoying thing is its constant auto-activation. I didn't open it for a week, I rebooted the phone several times in the meantime and yet Winamp was constantly on the list of running applications. If killed, it reopened itself immediately. Even if it was only sleeping in the background without using any resources, I have to ask: WHY?! Why on Earth long unused application starts itself and keeps itself loaded for days? Uninstalled. Fortunately, there are many other great free players for Android.

In App Screenshots, there is a pic from app icons which shows a folder and I thought this app can play files by folder. I don't use playlist, songs, generation. etc. and always play songs by folder. But after installing, I couldn't find such an icon and App can not play songs by folder. I hope in future updates this problem will be solved.(Toshiba 7inch Tablet, Android 3.2 )

Update- Good news! The radio stations are back. You can now enjoy the station of your genre/ choice. Paid version offers nicely laid graphic equalization. I am a fan of Winamp on PC hooked via HDMI to my Home Theater, which I use with paid Audioburst X output add on which pumps music at studio reference quality of 32bit, 192khz!

tldr version - unstable, crashes too much. if you want to get a pro version of a player get poweramp. This is not the winamp we all know and love on windows. It is extremely unstable and can be very laggy at times. seriously the amount of times it has crashed on me when using the UI is almost a joke. Things as simple as trying to view your playlist, searching for a track or even changing a setting can cause it to crash. And this is also running on a xoom tablet so it has all the power it needs to run fine. Sadly like most other players it has no tablet optimized ui. But its more apparent with winamp. If you just hit play and control playback with a headset its fine, but if you plan on actually using the UI then you're gonna need all the luck in the world. Made the unfortunate mistake of buying the pro version as well. thought the bugs would be ironed out over time, but its been several updates later now and nothing. Bottom line - if you want a free player this may be enough but if you want the extra features you're better off spending your money on poweramp. Its very stable and has a decent ui on tablets unlike this poor attempt from nullsoft. 1 Star.

Winamp crashes if I even touch my phone. As soon the screen becomes active again on my Nexus S, I'm out. (an "official" Google phone, BTW. You would think AOL would test it on one of these) I use Winamp on my laptop with no problems at all and I love using it with Shoutcast. But for my phone, not so much. I'm having no problems with any other apps and I've had the phone for about a year now.

On my Nexus s 2.3.6 many buttons just don't work. The widget can't be used unless winamp is already playing songs and all kind of stuff. Winamp should do better..

Why doesnt this player have any kind of menu/configuration options, it even ignores the .nomedia tags, i cant tell it where my songs are so everything it finds that is playable in the list including all sounds from games and other apps stored on my sdcard, hence why I thinks its a bit basic! Expected more from their software, the windows version is sooooo much better!

This player is good but not as good to get a 4 or 5 out of 5 star rating. This is missing the an mp3 ID Tag editor, I would definately like to see this integrated in the next version. Also, the widgets can do with a little transparency :)

I've been using Winamp Pro on my PC for years and it's great to find an android version. Works great on my Galaxy S2. As per the full size player, its a breeze to navigate and use. Haven't tried the wireless sync or connecting to the PC, but very impressed with it so far. LOVE the 'enqueue' option to create on-the-fly playlists! This feature alone makes it better than anything Apple can produce.

Have been using Wimamp on and off for some time now, on pc and Android. Wanted Equalizer and other premium features, too expensive on Android. Switching to less than half priced alternate which amazed me with interface quality and sound quality. Will hopefully continue to use Winamp for pc to phone sync, haven't tried it before.

Been using Winamp since before. .020a or whatever Wikipedia lists as the first release. My Pentium 33mhz windows 3 machine could not play stereo mp3s without some beta version that was released or slipped into public domain months or years before 1997. I just paid for pro after using the free version for a long time. The things I like about Winamp for android are... A solid product. Doesn't fail or skip a beat without a reason. Shout cast! I used to use Pandora. I just deleted it after playing with Shout!

I used to play rock music on my galaxy ace from my mobile's music player ..one day I was listening to new song..but that was having too noise and too unclear sound..so I changed my earphone tried low audio...but the problem was not solved..so today I played the same from winamp and I was surprised that the song I played was too clear and noisefree...thanks a lot team of NULLSOFT for winamp...!!!

I use Winamp on PC, and I have nothing bad to say about it at all. I love Winamp so much that I've bought the pro version, and it does improve the experience. The only problem that I have with the Android version is that compilation albums are not handled like they are on the desktop; it keeps separating the songs because they have different artists. If this was fixed, then it would be a definite 5 stars, but for now, 4 stars. Runs incredibly stable on HTC Desire w/ Android ICS.

There isn't much to say about the venerable WinAmp. One of the first MP3 players available years ago for windows has made a terrific transition to the mobile market with it's Android version. The wifi sync is simply the best, and it works well with the windows desktop client which is still the sleekest and most reliable music app on Windows in my opinion. The android app is sleek, simple and reliable. It almost never force closes, and blows the floor off the stock music app. The only downside is the lack of EQ in the free version, which is available from a paid in app upgrade. Still this isn't a big issue for anyone running Gingerbread or later since the OS has it's own. Overall, this is the best music app on android, period.

I was a big Winamp supporter until I started experiencing all the issues others have described below. M4A, MP4sm FLAC... basically anything not MP3 doesn't play properly anymore. Either MAJOR static or skips them all together. I'll be checking alternatives, once these issues are fixed I may consider redownloading... certainly not gonna spend money on the full version at this point.

The 10/26 update broke my Motorola Atrix. The player plays MP3s fine, but my Nero AAC M4As are filled with static. Sounds like lower byte endian is backward. The earlier versions played fine. I would appreciate it if Nullsoft would look into this issue. There is no way I would upgrade to Pro with this rotten, scratchy sound. I can't even use the free version.

Winamp is a great program. I had been happily using it for months. I love so many of the features. BUT, unfortunately, the latest update has rendered it useless on my HTC Legend with Android 2.2. There have been a series of updates since the initial one which caused all the issues, and they have improved things, but I still cannot listen to music without the program stuttering, especially when switching apps and running Winamp in the background. Hopefully the next few updates will resolve the issue.

Stutters and skips at random - even just turning the display on makes it stutter, and my phone isn't exactly low end (Samsung Epic/Galaxy S). The wifi sync is hit and miss, it seems if I try to sync a bunch of files at once it'll force close. And the shoutcast streaming is very hit and miss, even on 4G. Too bad.

Be warned if updating to this newest version of Winamp. Previous versions have worked flawless for me but after updating to 1.2.2, Winamp resets the song position anytime it is paused and forced to run in the background. Since I often listen to mp3s that are 1 to 3 hours long, once I return to Winamp it forgets where it was in the file and has reset to the beginning. Remembering song position was possibly my favorite feature of Winamp before the new version. Hopefully this will be fixed soon

New version does not remember where you left off if you are listening to a long file. I like to listen to Imus and it would save my spot in the show. It could do anything to my phone including rebooting the phone and it would still remember where I was in the file. Not anymore. Had to go back to the previous version. You look at the phone the wrong way and it would start the show from the very beginning of the file.

They show up fine on the desktop but not on the phone. None of my bookmarks work anymore. I tried entering them manually but it just endlessly buffers with no resolution. This is sad. While the app has not been freezing or crashing on my Dinc, when I'm playing an entire album it skips tracks, meaning that at the end of a song, it will play the song after the next one in the album. Please fix this asap, as I don't like fiddling with my phone needlessly while I'm driving. Historically, this has been a great app.

The latest install doesn't resume play at the point where you stopped the track, but restarts it at the beginning of the track (!!!). Also, this seems to use a lot more CPU, I have watchdog and it kept warning me that winamp was over the 40% threshold which the previous version never did.

On Galaxy i5510, previous version (1.1) worked perfectly. Now during user interaction audio gets paused, as if it were eating all processing power on updating the UI or handling interaction. The issue is most noticeable when the track playing screen is visible. Each time the timeline gets updated, the audio is paused. Please go back to the previous version until this is fixed.

My rating is on the previous version. Now, everything seems to work until I try to press a button with a song playing, then *POOF* broken. I thought I was going to be able to play a manually entered stream for a bit, but no joy. Aside from a few problems with the new functionality they have released, this is a great app. Bug1: Playing from the folder browser & crossfade is set to 0 secs (either on or off). Problem1: Sometimes freezes when song has ended and it is about to start the next one. Bug2: Playing from the folder browser. Problem2: The menu button only works intermittently. Complaint1: No option to delete the song if playing from folder browser. Galaxy S with 2.3.4

Was using it last few weeks. Great app. Installed the update today, and paid for the pro to get the few extras. Life ended. Nothing works. Won't play 9 out of 10 songs. Reports some as zero length 00:00, others as crazy 983:49, etc. Uninstalled reinstalled several times, then mounted sdcard, searched and destroyed anything related to winamp. installed again. Still completely broken. DO NOT UPDATE.. older vesion was good. new sucks. I'll update this review is Nullsoft addresses this.

Local music files and shoutcast streams fail to play on Samsung Galaxy S (T959). Winamp on PC is great, but the Android app still needs a lot of polish. Will keep watching this for future fixes. I've rated the app on past performance, which has been great considering I only use it for local music and shoutcast streams. I know Winamp will work to fix this current problem. I only hope they add an "Exit" button instead of relying on the back key.

I have two complaints and besides these two I have nothing to complain about, it's free after all. 1) Winamp is using my background memory even when the app is closed. 2) Using shoutcast through Winamp causes the app to crash all the time. I really wish these two would be fixed, I'd give a 5 star if the next update fixed these problems.

This programs looks like it has all of the features I'm looking for. Good music management, remote sync, streaming stations, clean interface.....etc. The fact is that it crashes constantly. Specially whenever I try to listen to Shoutcast. Very disappointed because other players don't have the same features. I'm running an Acer a500 with Android 3.1. It could be an isolated case, since there are so many positive reviews. It may work great on a phone vs a tablet.

I was really disappointed at first at the lack of features. It doesn't even have what I consider the most basic options and features that the windows version does. But it does work well as a player. The interface is original and functional. The widget is handy. The buttons are a bit small and can be hard to hit successfully. But this player has grown on me. I hope to see more Winamp features in the future like adjustable pre-amp settings.

With no equalizer capability, it does not seem a very attractive choice of good music player. The sound quality if average and is no where in comparison with PowerAmp which produces an extremely solid sound performance with equalizer.

I have a lot music in AAC and I found that winamp sound quality with these files is very average. The HTC DHD built-in player with SRS enchancement sounds much better (both were tested with Etymotic hf2 headset). However, the player's behavior is expected, widgets are useful and the player is stable, no FCs or other failures. So sad that there is no any sound enchancement. 3 of 5 (don't forget that this is music player first of all and music quality is expected to be much better than it is)

I like it. Its syncs nicely with my Winamp on my laptop. I just put all my music in the Music folder, and this keeps it updated on my Droid. I can't get the wi-fi sync to work, but I'm ok with that. The one heartburn I have with it is that it plays musics at random, unbidden and I can't choose to disable the speakers. Sometimes I have to fully restart my droid to stop the music.

It does everything that Winamp on the pc does which makes it a superb music player. But, when deleting folders/playlists from sd card Winamp doesn't seem to update the list, so after a while u end up with a list of playlists most of which are not even on the phone. If this could be fixed

Plays okay but too easy to use which makes it very difficult to use. No apparent folder view. I have a thousand songs all neatly arranged by folders. Winamp takes them dumps them into two huge random heaps called "artist" and "songs" resulting in a giant Charley Foxtrot. Not sure how anyone can effectively manage even a 100 songs without folders especially when they've been arranged that way for the last 15 years.

Within 10 minutes of installing and starting it, the player inexplicably stopped playing and the app didn't respond for about a minute or so. I like the sliding album art/player pane, but it is kind of broken. If you're in settings and slide up the song pane and want to delete the current song, set as a ringtone, or add it to playlist, you can't. You have to lower the pane, back out of settings, reopen the pane, and press the menu button. An edge case, but stuff like this makes the app feel beta-level.

This is a great shoutcast player. I've tried several different alternatives, but I keep coming back to WinAmp because its easy to use. However, it has one feature I would really like them to put in, and that's the ability to play a custom URL station. I don't always want to search for it when I know the URL or IP address of the station. Please fix this very basic missing feature. If it had this I would give it 5 stars...

Winamp often randomly unpauses and starts playing music with no user input, even if the phone is on silent. I've had this happen at some inopportune moments, pretty embarrassing. This bug is a show stopper for an otherwise great app.

Google Music player falls in a force-close-heap if you put more than a few hundred songs in the /Music folder, but then refuses to play those same songs if you split them up into Album subfolders, so I was happy to see Winamp for Android. Winamp seems happy to find all the music in your subfolders, but then gets all sorts of barfy feelings with a large number of MP3-VBR files (Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file). Even ones that Google Music is happy to play. Disappointing. *shrug*

The interface is a little counter intuitive compared to some of the other free players on the market, but the shoutcast support makes it a must have. It would be nice to be able to jump between artist and album views with tabs rather than having to go back to the WA homescreen. App crashes every time I exit, but runs fine during use.

Winamp for Android is a joke. It already cause me few embarassing moments and it woke me up few times in the night (at 04:00 etc.). This is totally unacceptable. Even if you crash the app with Advanced Task Killer, it will re-open in background somehow. It's so sad they're not fixing this problem because many people are complaining and otherwise it would be best player for Android.

Great that this is on Android as its my preferred windows player. Shame about the lack of features ie eq/milkdrop. A milkdrop live wallpaper would be sweet. Only downside is that the sync lists don't match if you are syncing between usb and wireless, also found the wireless sync drops out occasionally.

excellent app, although it does have some minor bugs..in particular with shoutcast, which forces me to quit winamp and restart again, because it is unable to reconnect. Anyway very versatile app, 4 stars because there are still some minor bugs

I was really disappointed at first at the lack of features. It doesn't even have what I consider the most basic options and features that the windows version does. But it does work well as a player. The interface is original and functional. The widget is handy. The buttons are a bit small and can be hard to hit successfully. But this player has grown on me. I hope to see more Winamp features in the future like adjustable pre-amp settings.

I have a lot music in AAC and I found that winamp sound quality with these files is very average. The HTC DHD built-in player with SRS enchancement sounds much better (both were tested with Etymotic hf2 headset). However, the player's behavior is expected, widgets are useful and the player is stable, no FCs or other failures. So sad that there is no any sound enchancement. 3 of 5 (don't forget that this is music player first of all and music quality is expected to be much better than it is)

WinAmp has definitely become my goto mp3 on my Droid X, it’s honestly the best free player I found, especially liking that I can sync over wifi FOR FREE Downside: it’s awkward to get the pc version to find covers to albums and organize albums with various artists; I sometimes have to revert to iTunes to get it right suggestion: I'd love to see a podcast player integrated into winamp, one where i don't have to sync it to the PC to search, subscribe, and download but instead do it all from the phone

This programs looks like it has all of the features I'm looking for. Good music management, remote sync, streaming stations, clean interface.....etc. The fact is that it crashes constantly. Specially whenever I try to listen to Shoutcast. Very disappointed because other players don't have the same features. I'm running an Acer a500 with Android 3.1. It could be an isolated case, since there are so many positive reviews. It may work great on a phone vs a tablet.

I like it. Its syncs nicely with my Winamp on my laptop. I just put all my music in the Music folder, and this keeps it updated on my Droid. I can't get the wi-fi sync to work, but I'm ok with that. The one heartburn I have with it is that it plays musics at random, unbidden and I can't choose to disable the speakers. Sometimes I have to fully restart my droid to stop the music.

Plays okay but too easy to use which makes it very difficult to use. No apparent folder view. I have a thousand songs all neatly arranged by folders. Winamp takes them dumps them into two huge random heaps called "artist" and "songs" resulting in a giant Charley Foxtrot. Within 10 minutes of installing and starting it, the player inexplicably stopped playing and the app didn't respond for about a minute or so. I like the sliding album art/player pane, but it is kind of broken. If you're in settings and slide up the song pane and want to delete the current song, set as a ringtone, or add it to playlist, you can't. You have to lower the pane, back out of settings, reopen the pane, and press the menu button. An edge case, but stuff like this makes the app feel beta-level.

This is a great shoutcast player. I've tried several different alternatives, but I keep coming back to WinAmp because its easy to use. However, it has one feature I would really like them to put in, and that's the ability to play a custom URL station. Google Music player falls in a force-close-heap if you put more than a few hundred songs in the /Music folder, but then refuses to play those same songs if you split them up into Album subfolders, so I was happy to see Winamp for Android. Winamp seems happy to find all the music in your subfolders, but then gets all sorts of barfy feelings with a large number of MP3-VBR files (Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file). Even ones that Google Music is happy to play. Disappointing. *shrug*

The interface is a little counter intuitive compared to some of the other free players on the market, but the shoutcast support makes it a must have. Great that this is on Android as its my preferred windows player. Shame about the lack of features ie eq/milkdrop. A milkdrop live wallpaper would be sweet. Only downside is that the sync lists don't match if you are syncing between usb and wireless, also found the wireless sync drops out occasionally.

Winamp for Android is a joke. It already cause me few embarassing moments and it woke me up few times in the night (at 04:00 etc.). This is totally unacceptable. Even if you crash the app with Advanced Task Killer, it will re-open in background somehow. It's so sad they're not fixing this problem because many people are complaining and otherwise it would be best player for Android.

Can't load m3u file from browser Other media players (StreamFurious) associate themselves with the .m3u extension in the browser, thus enabling them to be used to stream arbitrary M3U playlists. Winamp does not do that. Nor is there the ability to type in a custom URL for online radio streams.

Loving the simplicity but... It does everything that Winamp on the pc does which makes it a superb music player. But, when deleting folders/playlists from sd card Winamp doesn't seem to update the list, so after a while u end up with a list of playlists most of which are not even on the phone. If this could be fixed

Runs hot on bluetooh Using an Atrix here, when connected to bt battery gets really warm even if I kill Winamp, still runs hot I have to kill the the bluetoothdun to kill the energy leak. This the only app that affects bt like that. Also a few lockups, and slow to return from calls. Winamp is king, and love the wireless sync option.

Ups and downs I like it. Its syncs nicely with my Winamp on my laptop. I just put all my music in the Music folder, and this keeps it updated on my Droid. I can't get the wi-fi sync to work, but I'm ok with that. The one heartburn I have with it is that it plays musics at random, unbidden and I can't choose to disable the speakers. Sometimes I have to fully restart my droid to stop the music.

Great app, just missing one thing. Works great on the HTC Desire. Only criticism is that you can't open the music folders when screen lock is on without unlocking the phone. Play, pause, fast forward & rewind all work when locked but no folder access. Enable this and is 5 star app IMO.

Great app! I just wish that when you sort by album that it would group multiple artists with the same album name into only one album. As of now, I have multiple albums that have various artists contributing to it, and instead of showing me just one album name, I have the entire album split up by artist. Pretty dangerous when i want to change music going 70 on the freeway

Good music management, remote sync, streaming stations, clean interface.....etc. The fact is that it crashes constantly. Specially whenever I try to listen to Shoutcast. Very disappointed because other players don't have the same features. I'm running an Acer a500 with Android 3.1. It could be an isolated case, since there are so many positive reviews. It may work great on a phone vs a tablet.

Works fine but avarage app It doesn't have the lockscreen overlay like it should. No EQ and no regular filebrowsing like poweramp, it relies completely on the android mediascanner which sucks in my opinion. It does come with some widgets and shoutcast DOES work just fine. I was hoping it would at least give me a bit more volume control than the crude android volume steps. All combined it offers proper playlists and you can queue from a search, shoutcast and desktop sync. Running on a galaxy S2.

Wildfire 2.2 Does not play well with stock alarm clock. Can't cancel alarm if it goes off while using Winamp. Deal breaker.

Won't play Shoutcast over 3G. If you want a good shoutcast player, look for A-Online Radio app. It plays Shoutcast flawlessly including AAC+ encoded!
