Evernote keeps making its image annotating app Skitch better and better. They’ve just released version 1.4, introducing several new features, which we’ll briefly explore in the text that follows. First there’s support for Maps, so you can (for instance) easily show directions to anyone. Tap on the Maps icon in Skitch, then select some place on the map to drop a pin and mark a location. Evernote has yet again updated its popular image annotation app for Android – Skitch. The main new thing of this release (version 1.3.04) is the ability to rotate objects and text using two fingers. You can either rotate a single object or more of them, by tapping on them individually to select them, then doing the two finger rotate. In addition, multi-select dragging has been improved and so has image quality when sharing. Help is now available while the code has been further optimized to make the app more stable on low-memory devices. Last week the Mobage frontrunner had only just managed to crack the top 50 of the free app charts, and this week it is firmly in the middle of the top grossing charts, picking up hundreds of thousands of installs in the process. Evernote has updated its Skitch app with two important features. First, there’s cropping, allowing you to crop any image to be whatever size you like. As with any other action in Skitch, you can either use an existing image or snap a photo right from the application. The second new thing is support for smoother lines, which now follow movements of your finger more accurately and look way better. And that’s just a start. Evernote’s blog posts ends with a promise that there’s more to come, including support for more platforms and more cool features. Not being able to paste text into a textbox really limits the potential of this otherwise wonderful app. Even more problematic is how you cannot reopen a saved skitch to re-edit and re-manipulate previous work, which reopens at a much lower resolution also! Potentially awesome app needs some serious enhancements. PLEASE FIX THESE SERIOUSLY CRIPPLING DRAWBACKS.

it is good for sketching but needs some enhancements: 1. Enable saving on the application itself 2. Have more shapes to use 3. Enable copy and past of shapes inside the sketch 4. Ability to store in an existing note, not a new one every time.

Takes a bit of getting used to, but is a wonderful app overall. My only suggestion would be to add a 'click and drag/mouse' icon, as sometimes it's hard to move things without changing them. You can't have everything though. Worth a good four stars.

What an excellent app!! I am using it for medical case reviews. I have photographed the documents and am now editting them in Skitch. It is so easy to censor patient identifiers with the pen tool. I then place arrows pointing to important parts of the document. Awsome!!!!!!

Everything about this app is awesome except that it can't save in full quality. The picture is perfect when drawn, but after you save it and open it later, it's no longer editable and the quality is gone. Please fix this! I love the app! It's still the best doodle app out there so far. Fix it to allow full-quality save, and it will be a monopoly. We can deal with large images/memory space. Just make full quality available, please! It's too great to let something like that ruin it! I'll give it a 5 star review if you do. Promise!

I use this for work and pleasure and find it both effective and fun for my purposes. I had to hold back a star based on the interface. The buttons aren't completely clear and could use some labeling. Also it's a pain doing some things because you need both hands to zoom and move at times. In the field it can be a bit cumbersome in rare instances.

The strangest thing to me is that it's almost proprietary to evernote. Try and save to picasa or another program, and it won't save multiple files. It names every file the same, and you can't rename before saving. Other than that...I love it. Perfect for what I need to do!

I'm not quite sure I will update and doubt using your services... This isnt small matter, why the need to know sensitive information when all I want to do is use your program's fonctions. I am like many a paying customer, and I am unimpressed by Evernote's actions torwards its clients. Now considering alternatives, while before it wasnt the case.

I have enjoyed playing with Skitch, but it needs a zoom tool and I wish that it didn't treat the bounding box around text as part of the text, such that it creates a white border where the box overflows, even when the text doesn't.

...to see it show up as an option when an app asks for a picture from gallery or camera. Would love to see Skitch as an option there, it open the camera function, let me take a pic, let me do my 'Skitching', and then auto insert that pic into my app.

I like using skitch for making quick diagrams and drawings on the spot when planning home improvements. The ability to add notes and measurements to photos is a great help in "seeing" the end result.

I'm looking at my phone's log right now, and it solely consists of debugging info. In other words, there's nothing personal. It is all useful for debugging, however, which is probably why they want it. I will happily continue to use this app knowing that there is, quite certainly, nothing wrong. That being said, the app is very well done overall, and I highly recommend it.

Some of you people reviewing the app really should may attention to permissions and what they really mean before you go on bashing what seems to be the app's quality. I was curious about it myself when I saw it in permissions so I tapped on it and it says it contains what a person does with their phone, not their personal and whoever introduced "sensitive" information. Say you're in one application, you want to add a picture into skitch, the log data helps identify the other program. Learn to read people.

Search the faq/kb on the dev website for a description of permissions. I think it is ok to want to access logs for troubleshooting. What doesn't make sense is why an app can't just access its own logs. But it appears that for android the log permissions are all or nothing. That is Google's fault. It really comes down to trust. How much of your information would be stored on Evernote's servers from notes? If you trust Evernote to help you "remember everything" why are you concerned about system logs?

The access to system logs permissions would give access to all activity from all programs. I trust Evernote with the things I tell it, because frankly its not really commercially relevant. But I do not trust them with what websites I visit, what books I read, what apps i use, what I buy and where I go. I should be able to opt out of this type of collection and there should be clear stated policies about its use and how long it is kept. I did some reading on ever note forums and they claim that the only time sensitive log data is collected is after a crash. Further, since it is sent in the body of an email, the user can edit the information before it is sent. All things considered this is actually fairly reasonable. Still this practice should be more clearly communicated to us.

I would never even consider downloading this based on branding, being that I am not a twelve year old girl. Once I realized that this was a legitimate note-taking app, I found that it could actually be useful for taking pictures of real-world notes and saving them to Evernote or marking them up. Just to make my point, this apps branding would make more sense if Evernote were called something like "Notesey" and the brand was that of a program that teenagers use to flirt in class. I would never use it, regardless of the functionality, and I don't think very many others would either. Please dear god don't change to this model - I am merely making a point about the lack of consistency in your branding/public image. A better idea would just be to simply apply a little less glitter to this product.

Limitation in Android make it difficult to enable actual screenshot abilities, but the more surprising limitation is the lack of ability to upload to your Skitch account. The whole reason I use Skitch is so I can easily share quick annotated images with people and to do that, I need to be able to upload those images to my Skitch account. Very weird omission.

Just as easy as the desktop version. Why only 4 stars? I use Skitch constantly on my Mac to take screen shots and mark them up. Way more often than I edit regular photos. It would be AWESOME if the Android version allowed us to take screen snaps (which is easier said than done on Android) and annodate them.

If you want to save to your sd, send the image to someone then hold the image and chose "save to sd". It will be in your downloads folder.

I was wary when evernote updated to this feature but I tried it. Trying to see how to save, was sent to the skitch website. Login with evernote pw, no privacy policy dialogue at all and it made a public profile and gallerys with my user name. No options to make your profile unlisted. A real mess. No email contact either. Abuse of permissions.

I know there are better image editing apps out there, and I have one installed. This app is more for taking a picture of that whiteboard in the meeting and adding a small annotation for attention purposes, at least for me. Works great and keeps me organized using Evernote. Glad to see the integration.

need to tablify, further integration w evernote It works alright on my xoom for lecture notes. It needs an enhanced tablet interface, as well as tighter integration with evernote. That is, i should be able to tag, title, add audio, pictures, documents, right from inside skitch. Also each new skitch should be able to have multiple pages, the current expandable canvas is a little hard to use and understand. Also, palm recognition would be awesome, and the lasso/selection tool needs to be able to move groups of objects, not just one. Good work, keep going!

A good start, but missing key features Limitation in Android make it difficult to enable actual screenshot abilities, but the more surprising limitation is the lack of ability to upload to your Skitch account. The whole reason I use Skitch is so I can easily share quick annotated images with people and to do that, I need to be able to upload those images to my Skitch account. Very weird omission.
