Quickoffice has updated its paid Pro app for Android yesterday, bringing it to version 4.0. The company says this is the biggest update of its Android application yet, and many new features have been added. Perhaps the most notable is the added ability to save files in the cloud. This works Box.net, Google Docs, DropBox, Huddle, SugarSync, and MobileMe accounts. Additionally, Quickoffice Pro now has better editing features, it loads files faster, and scrolling and zooming have been made seamless. Readwriteweb.com is reporting that QuickOffice, the mobile software suite that allows users to manipulate and edit documents on their mobile devices, has been updated to work on Google's Honeycomb version of its mobile OS, and will be shipping a free trial version on the Xoom tablet, as well as many other devices. A few weeks ago, I compiled a list of essential iPhone apps for people who are too busy to sift through the roughly 300,000 titles in the App Store. Browse all the mobile app coverage that has appeared in The New York Times by category, and see what Times writers have on their phones and tablets. Android users have it even worse. Although there are fewer apps to peruse (around 100,000 at last count), the Android Market is a nightmare to navigate compared with the iTunes App Store. Yes, even though Google is the master of search, its Android Market’s search feature is less effective than Apple’s. The Market also has no answer for the App Store’s “Staff Favorites,” “Essentials” or “New and Noteworthy” selections, which pull good apps to the front of the catalog. But that’s why I’m here. When you use free software, ads are usually part-and-parcel of the experience. However, typically developers are considerate enough to limit the advertising to within the app itself. Sadly, whoever programmed the popular document viewing application QuickOffice lacks such scruples and has decided to start pushing notifications to users, inviting them to upgrade to the paid version of their app. In many cases, QuickOffice is pre-installed with a phone's version of Android - even something carrier agnostic like the Nexus One - and is difficult to remove, leaving non-root users at the mercy of the app's creators. Android has seen astounding growth in both the consumer and enterprise markets, but the iPhone and BlackBerry have dominated enterprise-specific app development. That may be starting to change. Today Box.net released its cloud storage app for Android, and other enterprise-focused apps have been released recently as well. Given the enterprise interest in the iPad and the fact that several Android tablets are supposedly just around the corner, we could start seeing more enterprise Android development. Although there are several PDF viewer app choices available for Android, most users will use the PDF viewer that comes standard with their particular flavor of Android. For HTC branded handsets, that app is called PDF Viewer. There are several other choices available including one from the creator of the Portable Document Format (”PDF”) file format - Adobe, and one from one of the most popular document viewing and editing app makers - DataViz, maker of the Documents To Go application suite. Motorola packages QuickOffice standard with the Droid and possibly other Android handsets. I have been very happy with Documents To Go on my Google Android devices for editing, viewing, and creating Office documents over this past year. I have noticed that some of the newer Android devices I tried or owned came with a Quickoffice viewer application, but I selected DTG for the default editor. I have been writing about the Dataviz and Quickoffice competitive updates and offerings on the iPhone and iPad over the past couple of years that has pushed both programs to be excellent choices on iPhone OS devices. This version is very easy to use to download documents from the net, store and view. You can make additions and changes. I don`t see the need for special editing features for which I use my laptop. I think it is great on the move. If I could screen dump to a document to save, say, a map or menu I am viewing it would be just perfect.

I am a high school student and use this app throughout the day, I can access all my documents from from my laptop on my cell phone. Its a must have!!! The only problem that I wish they could fix its the ability to open up more types of files like .pages files that are what most mac users have.

It could work properly the most of the times, it certainly updates itself when they do any change, but if you decide to upgrade your device, let's say, from an Android into a iPhone, using the same phone number you have, they are going to try to make you pay again. Their answer to me was trying to make believe that they are selling apps like if they were computer softwares as Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop, in which using different platforms (PC or Mac) means to buy a different software. So even if the app is good, their service to the costumer is NOT GOOD AT ALL.

This is a great app but there are a bunch of minor things that needs to be added and updated in the app to make it more integrated and seamless. First, it needs skydrive support, its kind of silly to have a Microsoft office app that doesn't even support Microsoft's cloud service. There also needs to ne auto scroll in landscape mode something that should be really easy to have in the app but is still nonexistent. There also seems to be a some issue surrounding office 2010 compatibility. Overall the app is ok

Very good application. Saved me on my finances during my recent vacation. I was able to create a financial ledger in Excel and keep it on the cloud in Google. The ease of accessing the file was simple as 1-2-3. I don't have a laptop and this was the next best thing for me to use. It's a bit time consuming to use but it does better than its designed to do.

This is a great app. However, I have lost my work a few times due to the lack of an auto-save feature. Now I know to save before I switch windows, but that is rather annoying. Also, the word processor does not appear to support any sort of spell check or auto-correct functionality. This is a severe hindrance, particularly on a phone's small screen. Fix these two issues and this will easily be a 5 star app, and worth every penny.

I purchased this app to use the word processor while mobile to write documents, while on a trip. It does not have an auto save function, so if you get a text message or a phone call, YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING AND HAVE TO START OVER FROM YOUR LAST MANUAL SAVE! I paid $15 for this, and I would have gotten more use and enjoyment burning $15 one dollar bills. I would have seriously been better off composing my documents in my email editor, and emailing them to me on an actual computer for final formatting. My thoughts are software should help us make better use of our time, and this falls short of this by miles. The software runs on a phone. Don't destroy all of my work because I get and accept a phone call. I hope the developers of this software step on Legos while barefoot everyday for the rest of their existence on this planet.

The easiest to use Excel spreadsheet program on a mobile device. Formula entry is good for a mobile device once you get the hang of it. Unlike Docs to Go, you get support for double border underline. Haven't lost formatting yet. Word and PDF functionality is excellent as well. Update for version 5 - even better formatting options available. Unfortunately, the support for Office 2003 formats now seems buggy.

They have not had time to add support for password protected files but they have had time to add spyware. The only way to persuade these companies to respect your privacy is to use one of the competing products instead. Warn others by adding a review for any app that accesses data that it has no need to access.

Other than that it has been a great app! so why do they insist on messing up their reputation....... strikes me that its commercial suicide. I need a way for employees to enter start and end times for services. With this app, when they double click on a cell that is formatted as time, Quickoffice recognizes that it's a time cell and brings up the current time and changeable time format. Two clicks and my guys can enter their start/end times. They click save and I have it on my computer/phone knowing where they are and when. Doc to Go makes them enter the time as Text. Takes much much more time. I WISH THIS WOULD STAY OPEN when they use their phone to take pictures, call, listen to music, etc.... I need them to remember to click "save" because if the app is closed by mistake, they lose info. from what I can see using it for 30minute tests....

I do not like the face that there is no upgrade option for those that purchased pro prior to honeycomb. This is bullshit. Now they want you to pay full price yet again because your tablet recieved an upgrade, a free os upgrade no less. I have used this app since its inception and i love it great support and devr esponse but i guess the almighty dollar has reared its ugly head again. I will not be paying full price again just because they had to change code for honeycomb and added the hd to the logo. A VERY DISAPPONTED USER.

I like this program, it runs very fast and very user friendly. However I hope the developer can add a function so we can view it in full screen. As most of our screen is around 4", actually is not necessary to display the notification area, and kindly consider to reduce the formula bar by around 20%.

This app has a great looking UI, but my love affair stops there because the beauty is only skin deep. This app fumbles trying to open word docs, cannot make a list, and has poor support. Documents To Go does a much better job all around. If Quick Office can fix the bugs this app would be awesome.

I use Quickoffice to copy files between my phone and Google docs and I use docs 2 go to edit the files on my phone.
