Anyone who has ever ventured into the world of alternative launchers has surely heard of LauncherPro, the favorite homescreen replacement of many. The developer of LP has released an update today that brings the version number up to 0.8.6 and a number of other features with it. Take a peep at the changelog: What's in this version: Of course, the big deal here is icon packs and infinite homescreen looping - something that was also just recently enabled in ADW Launcher EX. LauncherPro, one of the most popular third-party launchers for Android, has just received an update, taking it to version 0.8.4. This update brings two new features, and lots of fixes. First off, users of the paid LauncherPro Plus have gotten a new LauncherPro widget, this time for Gmail. This widget matches the style of all the other LauncherPro widgets (for Contacts, Calendar, Twitter, and Facebook) that are only available if you've bought the app. The new Gmail widget lets you quickly glance at your Inbox, and tap on any received email to view it. The viewing action will happen using a LauncherPro-specific viewer, because Google apparently doesn't allow external apps to trigger viewing a specific email conversation thread. In last weekend's (non-)poll, I asked for your three favorite Android apps. You did your part, and nearly 100 people took the opportunity to vote. Now it's my turn, so I've compiled the results and I'll list them below along with details and a brief description of each app. Given just how not-so-attractive Android 2.2 and below is, it's not really surprising that a launcher should take the top spot. The most popular home screen and 'app drawer' replacement app for Android is LauncherPro -- but I'm not sure why. I mean, sure, it gives you a scrolling dock, and up to seven home screens -- big whoop. Maybe I'm just a bit jaded. I have recently reviewed two very good home screen apps, after all. Many of you took a nasty hit on battery life as the widget’s service would remain active and looking for data even when there were no tweets to pull down. I have the s2 skyrocket. I had it on previous phones and loved it. after I got this new phone it was the first thing I downloaded. I always thought the phone had terrible battery life. I recently changed to golauncher and wow what a difference my battery life probably double. also no updates no support. RIP

Hasn't been updated in nearly a year. This launcher is just too outdated to be any real competition to NOVA Launcher, Apex Launcher on ICS or GO Launcher EX on Gingerbread. I'd love to see Fede bring back LauncherPro with a new ICS foundation, but for the time being, this app drops way down in rating...

best launcher in android for me, only bug i saw was icons don't line up properly in the app drawer whenever flipping to landscape..but once you scroll through the apps, everything is restored..3 stars for now

still my fave launcher. bought pro version which was worth every penny a year ago. facebook & twitter widgets are useful. Google+ stream widget would be nice, and for twitter widget would be nice to open selected tweet in browser. Has all the hallmarks of having been abandoned. Hope not, it's too good to just dwindle to nothing. I still rate it as about the best. Come on Fede, there is work to do now to regain the top spot.

Go Launcher is more customisable which is great, and includes themes (although there are hardly any out there) - somebody please come up with some cool themes; especially for the dialer!

I "donated" to get the plus version, however this isn't necessary. Much cool eyecandy meets great usability. Since I have it installed on my htc wildfire I have shared it with many other Android users who are all using it since. The to jakkomo who got me hooked.

perfect blend of speed, customizing and battery life. I was using adw ex until it started getting buggy and my battery was suffering. currently my phone has been on for 8 hrs with 2 hrs streaming pandora, 1 hour of streaming video minor text and phone use and I have 70% life left. the only feature I would like is to be able to individually change icon pics that are not in the dock

Its an awesome launcher and ive been enjoying it pn my sony xperia play, but just yesterday after months of use i realized that when i open my gamepad on my phone, my launcher crashes, so im going to have to look for a new launcher :/

The bugs: LP force closes on me every couple of days. Often, when the phone boots, several of my customized icons revert to the defaults until I restart LP. The good stuff: IMO, LP has better features than ADW or Go. Better scrollable dock with swipe gestures and activity shortcuts. Hopefully the dev's planned rewrite fixes the bugs; then this could be the perfect launcher.

LPP Widgets are cool but an LPP GTD widget would be awesome so we don't need a separate app and can have the same design for all widgets. I didn't see much app improvements for months, I hope the dev is preparing something new like the above suggestion.

This has always been my favorite launcher. Very fast and has a looping customizable dock. Haven't found this feature in any other launcher, however currently I'm experiencing graphical issues under ics. maybe this is due to my ROM (pyroice). If so, disregard this rant.

People said that Zeam launcher is the fastest and the smoothest out there. But in my phone I found out this launcher is faster and smoother. Unfortunately the devs never update it. Almost 1 year? I'm loving this launcher so far, except for the one issue i've found. I wanted to use the calendar widget , but it shows me a lot of facebook events, even the ones i was just invited and didn't accept. this is really annoying since facebook events get a lot of spam, and that spam get's right into my widget tried disabling the Facebook Calendar Sync in the stock calendar app and in Accounts and Sync options, but no luck. this widget seems to ignore those preferences

I've no idea what wacky weed the designers at Dell made them think that the Stages UI was suitable for the Dell Streak. It is the most useless UI out there. The I discovered LauncherPro - saved!! have been using it for 2 months and I love it - made my Streak what it should be. Keep up the good work Federico!

So good that I actually paid for it! However, upgrading to a Samsung Galaxy S ii, has shown issues with the Missed Call/Gmail/Messaging Icon notifications. This is well documented in the LP Forums and will hopefully be fixed in the next update. Until then I'm forced to look elsewhere for a Launcher.

I switched from GO Launcher. Launcherpro has better performance(not sluggish, smoother scrolling) on my phone (droid razr), but I miss the ability to customize with GO Launcher. The launcher also needs to get updates... Changing the icon and name for individual app should be easier. Should be able to add multiple apps at once on scrsen. but apparently it is not getting updates. The only reason I paid for Launcherpro is to use it until GO launcher gets better...GO launcher gets updated very frequently.

I wish I could rate 4.5 stars works as promised a bit of lag but nothing horrible. Some of the features you need to pay for. The best part is the level of customization you get out of it. It has been too long. This is the first app I ever purchased (over a year ago) and my second purchase was just 2 weeks ago. Been using go launcher the past 4 months. So much more powerful than this. I wish there'd be an update. Sad that is the most money I spent on an app and it hasn't been updated in 6 months to keep up with the other launchers.

This is by far the best launcher I have seen. There are many configuration options and also quite a few transition effects. All of them are buttery smooth on my Nexus one. Although I run Cyanogenmod and it comes with ADW, I stick to Launcher Pro alone because of its performance.

Makes it faster and doesn't take much RAM so it's great for old phones without dual core, but some stuff are missing though. Lacks effects (like when you turn on the screen) and the close effect on apps like Facebook has a glitch. Like it is otherwise though :D

Launcher Pro is an outstanding launcher for those who don't need or want to root. I'm a Sprint user, and I used Gingerbread Launcher for 13 months simply to cover up the Sprint ID icon. But with Launcher Pro, I gain an entire row at the bottom of the screen for app icons. There does seem to be one bug: apps stored on the SD card do not have their icons carry over into home screen folders. But overall, this adds tremendous value to users and improves upon stock android in an effective way.

Took a few resets(like most devs suggest, if it doesn't work "out of the box" reset it; for me it took 4-5) to work out some kinks in custom shortcut images, but since that was resolved this app has been working flawlessly on my R2D2. No glitches, no bugs, auto-updates, the works...more than impressed. Tried 4 other launchers prior and none of them hold a candle to LauncherPro. The functionality and customization take it a large step beyond the others.

Despite all the growth Android has seen over the years somehow iPhone still holds the distinction of being more "smooth" and "snappy". This may not seem to matter technically but it does make the iPhones considerably more enjoyable to use. With Launcher Pro the "smooth" and "snap" come to the Android in an incredibly flexible package. This program nullified the jerkiness that comes with Motoblur on my Atrix and allowed me to customize my interface beyond my expectations. Well done.

This is a great app. It will remove everything from your home screens when downloaded so be ready to set all your screens up again. This app will make your home screens very customize able. The trade a off is you loose some of the features the phone came stock with. For example on my Droid Razr I can not get my favorite contacts widget to show up on the screen. Also lost the ability to drag the boarder of Widgets around to change there shape or size. Can no longer drag apps or Widgets from screen to screen

I have a Samsung Captivate, and it's stock dock isn't.... exactly the prettiest, even runnin Froyo since it has TouchWiz 7.0 I think. It does randomly shut off more (problem with the Captivate) while running this than stock Touch, but otherwise the look, feel, and ability to hide apps in the app drawer makes LauncherPro and amazing app! Customizable docks, etc. just make this app absolutely amazing and I love it!

I have the HTC Evo, and HTC Sense constantly crashes and reboots, so I thought Id go on the hunt for a launcher to replace it. I have tried almost every launcher on the Market, and all seem to have some crippling flaw. Not Launcher Pro. Its highly customizable, smooth, low on battery consumption, and best of all FREE. If you are looking for a good Home replacement, install Launcher Pro! You wont be disappointed.

Been using it on my Spica for several months now. Even bought the Pro version. Works wonderful but not on my Ideos X6 (froyo). It cause a crash on the contacts procerss wherein a forceclose it required. I hope this will be fix soon on future updates.

I have been faithful to launcherpro since I purchased and rooted my Huawei Ascend, having tried every launcher on the market and still remaining loyal to launcherpro. After this new update, however, it seems to force close non-stop, even with minimal apps running. I have tried every setting out there to decrease these instances with no prevail. Other than the FC's this is a very amazing launcher, the Plus features are worth every penny. Plus, the dev is always updating and taking suggestions.

Using it on my Samsung Fascinate and it works like a charm! I have the regular version (you can get the Plus version for $3 and comes with some nice widgets) and allows me to customize my android dock and homescreens well :) can't go back to the default one after using this!

This is good, but I found Go Launcher Ex to be much more useful. Now when you compare this to Htc sense, it's wonderful, but it just doesn't match the customization of Go launcher, nor the usefulness and lack of ram that go launcher uses. Try this, but try Go Launcher too to see if you like it better. Thanks.

Samsung GSii. for all the neato stuff launcher pro does, it comes with a lot of hassles and annoyances. i don't like how it handles resizing of some larger widgets (specifically, accuweather and AP). and i HATE the effect it has on wallpapers that i choose myself from outside of Launcher. just when i think my wallpaper is in a stable state, it will blow up and distort again, and the only way to fix it is to go back to the standard Android launcher and then back into Launcher Pro. disappointing.

To make it a 5-star app, what I'd love to see is the ability to have different screen layouts (widgets/icons) depending on screen orientation. If I do happen to switch from portrait to landscape, the layout doesn't make sense, and doesn't look good. I can think of a far better layout that would be brilliant for landscape mode, but then my normal portrait mode would look silly. Adding something like this would make this absolutely incredible app that much better!

I've used this launcher exclusively since I had my Samsung Galaxy S phone. It's been great until about 3 months ago, when I began experiencing issues, including constant FCs, sluggish operations, general instability. Recently, my phone's speaker failed. I thought it was either a hardware failure or a problem with the version of firmware on my phone. But I switched to Go Launcher, ported my launcher settings and rebooted. So far, the issues have disappeared, phone is snappy, no FCs and the speaker works.

It's only been a day since I installed this on my Droid 2 Global and so far, so great. I saw a huge speed increase from the stock Motoblur interface, which always had some degree of lag and crashed often when I ran resource heavy apps like Maps. This launcher is not a revolution in terms of interface, so it was very easy to get used to, but the transitions are silky smooth (dare I say, iPhone-like?). The jury is still out on what effect this has on battery life.

Great app but needs constant restarts to clear corrupted icons in folders on home screen and chews battery. Dock notifications for Text and missed calls don't work either. Benefits outweigh bugs.

I recently purchased an EVO 4G and have been having some trouble with the Sense UI. Sense would lock up and have to reload constantly - perhaps due to Lookout and AVG. Instead of waiting for an update to Sense, I decided to give this a try and was extremely satisfied with all of the customizations, home-screen SD backup, and landscape modes. It launches very quickly even with AVG and Lookout running and does a superb job of remaining fluid and fast.

I really liked Launcher Pro in fact I bought Launcher Pro Plus & it worked great for about a month. Then my battery started to die fast & stuff started messing up? Like it would only let me have 3 home screens & when I changed something in the settings it wouldn't change? So I uninstalled it then reinstalled it & it still didn't work? Now that I deleted it my battery still dies fast & my Samsung Infuse 4G has a 1750 mAh battery which is huge so it lasted 2 days with moderate use & now fully charged with zero use it dies in about 8 hrs. So please update & fix it so I can use it again?

Cannot get LP to launch after the Droid 2.3 OS update. This is easily my preferred UI with plenty of customization options, but Gingerbread won't let me launch it. Home Switcher can't seem to set it as my default. Suggestions?

Just wanted to say thanks for the app. I honestly hadn't been using it for a while as i had my nexus one running cyanogenmod 7, but now that i bought am HTC sensation and was stuck with HTC Sense, which i loathe, it's nice to have this app to fall back on. Now i just have to find my password to unlock the pro features and i'll be golden. Thanks again it's a great app.

Since the update to Gingerbread on the T-Mobile G2x, LauncherPro Plus crashes often. Also during phone start up, LP will not load and will freeze my device for a minute or two. Was fun while it lasted. Wish I could sell some of my no longer compatible apps. Hey, that's an idea!

To make it a 5-star app, what I'd love to see is the ability to have different screen layouts (widgets/icons) depending on screen orientation. If I do happen to switch from portrait to landscape, the layout doesn't make sense, and doesn't look good. I can think of a far better layout that would be brilliant for landscape mode, but then my normal portrait mode would look silly. Adding something like this would make this absolutely incredible app that much better!

It's only been a day since I installed this on my Droid 2 Global and so far, so great. I saw a huge speed increase from the stock Motoblur interface, which always had some degree of lag and crashed often when I ran resource heavy apps like Maps. This launcher is not a revolution in terms of interface, so it was very easy to get used to, but the transitions are silky smooth (dare I say, iPhone-like?). The jury is still out on what effect this has on battery life.
Are you still around or has uber music become priority. You have a lot of people (paid customers) waiting for the rewrite promised for march.

I've used this launcher exclusively since I had my Samsung Galaxy S phone. It's been great until about 3 months ago, when I began experiencing issues, including constant FCs, sluggish operations, general instability. Recently, my phone's speaker failed. I thought it was either a hardware failure or a problem with the version of firmware on my phone. But I switched to Go Launcher, ported my launcher settings and rebooted. So far, the issues have disappeared, phone is snappy, no FCs and the speaker works.

I recently purchased an EVO 4G and have been having some trouble with the Sense UI. Sense would lock up and have to reload constantly - perhaps due to Lookout and AVG. Instead of waiting for an update to Sense, I decided to give this a try and was extremely satisfied with all of the customizations, home-screen SD backup, and landscape modes. It launches very quickly even with AVG and Lookout running and does a superb job of remaining fluid and fast.

I really liked Launcher Pro in fact I bought Launcher Pro Plus & it worked great for about a month. Then my battery started to die fast & stuff started messing up? Like it would only let me have 3 home screens & when I changed something in the settings it wouldn't change? So I uninstalled it then reinstalled it & it still didn't work? Now that I deleted it my battery still dies fast & my Samsung Infuse 4G has a 1750 mAh battery which is huge so it lasted 2 days with moderate use & now fully charged with zero use it dies in about 8 hrs. So please update & fix it so I can use it again?

Just wanted to say thanks for the app. I honestly hadn't been using it for a while as i had my nexus one running cyanogenmod 7, but now that i bought am HTC sensation and was stuck with HTC Sense, which i loathe, it's nice to have this app to fall back on. Have to restart occasionally - I have to restart the launcher occasionally (dont know what causes it) the icons on the dock turns into smaller ones (like when you see them in landscape mode). Especially every time I restart my phone (Nexus S) I have to restart launcher too. - And then doing homescreen auto-rotation, sometimes the wallpaper disappears, again forcing me to restart the app. - And at one point the mail, message, and missed calls indicators in the dock stopped working. (restart doesn't bring them back)

Please remove the resize widget option from the free version. It is very annoying, and other launchers have it for free... thank you.

This is a home replacement. So, it has to access all of your info, to make it available to you. Sense has same permissions. Think people, think!

Installing this on my Droid sped it up believe it or not. Works really well, the built in Widgets require that you pay. They aren't worth it.
