1) Install and run this app once;
2) Install free IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ;
3) Go to Android Settings -> Voice Input & Output -> Text-to-Speech settings, activate IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ at the bottom of the screen, then select IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ as the Default Engine.

very nice voice very nice voice. However, I don't like the fact that I have to run a service all the time for it to work. Its also quieter then the stock Android voice so in noisy conditions, like a convertible, its imposable to hear. Can't really complain to much since its free. However, I would not pay for it if that is the case after November. Can you please save files in the correct directory to not cuter our SD cards. Here is a link with Google’s development suggestions. Potential Sounds amazing when I can get it to play. Would love to hear it outside of the 5 second demo in the program itself, but yet to get it to work.

Really good after recent update: Used to be slow, but works quickly now. The voices sound incredible while reading an eBook. Some actual tone and inflection.

Still buggy The latest update hasn't fixed the pauses and gaps in playback. Please fix this. The sound of your voices is second to none. Can't buy til fixed.

Highly recommended Highly recommended! Download of voices may be a bit slow, but the resulting quality is astonishing! Way better than built-in Pico and also than SVOX.

Way nice This is the best tts engine of the three I've tried. Only gripe is the slow response time, sometimes google Maps needs to switch back to recorded msgs

Volume too low to be useful . Cannot hear gps directions or distance information when running with music. Way too quiet to be useful.

Awesome This makes all other TTS programs look like rank amateurs. Amy is my favorite. Love update for louder voices Works perfectly on my Galaxy S2.

too much ram memory... unfortunaly PicoTTS and Ivona speech engines eats too much ram memory.begin to eat from 50 ram memory and in time,just made my mobile to colaps because ram memory is full.Maybe find a solution to free ram after use,or trace that delete from ram the cache.Good vocie and very nice but uninstalled because this ram colaps.

Doesn't work with Moon+ Reader Pro The UK voice sounds great, but unfortunately, Ivona doesn't seem to work with my favorite reader with TTS. It just silently speeds through the book, with not a word spoken. SVOX and Pico voices both work with moon+ reader pro.

A relief compared to PICO Pleasant voice. Just like PICO, there are adjustments while listening. While it generally reads most text more accurately it struggles differently.

Best of the Bunch! Most impressive TTS but it comes at a price of needing high end hardware. It would struggle on my captivate (would stutter or delay) but the more powerful Galaxy S II makes this TTS really shine. Highly recommended if you are sick of the anemic default android TTS engine. Very impressed! Now just get MORE of your voices on android!!

awesome Most natural voice I've ever heard on Android (and I've tried them all). Also massive props to the company for doing a Welsh voice (with quite good pronunciation) too. Just waiting for it to hit Android.. :)

Amazing voice synthesis Best TTS on android but it is much too slow to respond, if the responses could match SVOX or Pico then that would make this an absolute necessity.

Works great best voice out there I run this on the Samsung galaxy Tablet it works great, it reads books , maps etc with great clarity. It has some small pronunciation and word recognition problems , such as the word "no" coming out as "number". It would be nice also to have a sentence read with a little more expression , but it sounds human.

Good quality but buggy I've tried to use it in several different applications and it always seems to pause at odd times, like it's struggling to get through sentences. Words get cut off then there will be a 5 second pause before it continues. This would be my first choice, if it just worked consistently. I normally would just uninstall and never look back, but when it works it's outstanding. So, I'll just disable it for now and wait for a fix. However, I won't pay for it until it's fixed. Samsung Epic 4G.

Impressive TTS IVONA is an award winning text to speech engine. It is basically unbeaten on Android. Considerably better than Apple's TTS in Siri even.

Better for higher end phones The voices sound very good, but they take over 30 megabytes, and they won't move to the sd card. Processing is slow on droid.

Hands down best voice sythesis on the market The voice synthesis is easily the most enjoyable on the market. Quality is phenomenal. Unfortunately, there are two downsides: File size is gigantic and its far too slow on my original Moto Droid 2.3.3 to be useful. Seriously, I hope its a hardware issue with my phone and not the app itself. The voice quality is too good to be ruined by a shoddy engine. Anyone else having issues with slow playback or lack of playback altogether? I hope its just my phone. My low rating reflects these issues. Otherwise 5stars

Had to reset phone. Apps wants me to redownload 200mb of voice data despite the files still being where they were before. Not going to do it.

Unable to move to storage card. Because this (otherwise fantastic) application denies the possibility to transfer to memory card and consumes almost 15MB (with installed voice) of smartphone's internal ram, I do not recommend it at all.

The Acapela voices are coming to Android soon, and they're better than these voices.
Best tts yet, but needs app2sd and voice kicks in late when using Google Navigation.

The voice works well and is so much better than the standard one. Works on my HTC Desire. Ultimately though I will have to remove it as the app 2.5m but more importantly voice data 30.57mb!!! and you can't put it on the SD card. Had my Desire four months now and its filling up so it'll probably have to go which is a real shame. It does switch back to standard voice for the odd sentnece during navigation - which is wierd. Not noticed any real latency issues experience by others. Sort the SD and its a 5

I have a Samsung Captivate and I cannot get Ivona to be my Default Engine. My phone only shows Pico TTS. Every time I go to the Ivona website for help it comes up in a foreign language that I neither read nor speak. Can someone please help? I really like the app as a demo but would like to be able to use it.

For everyone complaining about the big file: If your android is rooted and you have partitioned your sd card move the big file from /data/data to /sd-ext and than make a symlink in /data/data pointing to the file in /sd-ext. I recomend doing it in recovery mode using adb

When car mode activated ringer continues to ring after phone is answered you can hear it during call on both sides of conversation. Droid charge.

Great Voice, Far, far to big a data file The voices are fantastic and work well on my Optimus V phone. However, the over 33MB data file that must be stored on the phone rather than the SD card is crippling to a very large percentage of Android phone users. Please add the ability to store voice data on the SD card. I want my other apps back!

Won't install on HTC Wildfire S Too big. Even with EVERY app possible on the SD card there isn't enough phone memory to install the voice. Data needs to be on SD card

Can vary rate & pitch in sample but it does not apply in actual use. The only factory DX setting is rate and then in big steps.

It's too Big for Internal memory 30MB This is a huge improvement over what Google Provide as Standard Voice, but the file size is way too large, over 30MB of internal memory goes on this App. In the end I had to uninstall this software as it ate too much space on my ZTE Blade. If it could be moved to the SD card then it would be fine, but 30MB internal is too much.
