Droid Life’s Top 25 Android Apps Of 2011 – Droid Life
Mini_discussion_bubble Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog - Posted Thu, 22 Dec 2011 21:02:33 UTC +00:00
As we draw closer to the end of year, we wanted to reflect on some of the apps that seemed to have taken 2011 by storm.  It was only a year ago that the Android Market hit the 200,000 apps milestone, and now we are talking 10 billion app downloads and beyond. Whether it was a new messaging client, revamped social networking tool, or even a game that consumed our days to the fullest, this was a great year for applications on Android.  2011 also marked the release of the Amazon Appstore, which changed the way developers could market their apps to potential buyers and also showed that Amazon knew people loved free things. So below, we have a list of the apps that we feel were the most popular, talked about and influential here at Droid Life throughout the year.  We have tried to keep it to apps that were released this Read More
Android this week: Galaxy S II first look; Amazon tablet soon; more Hulu Plus devices
Mini_discussion_bubble GigaOm - Posted Sat, 24 Sep 2011 13:09:11 UTC +00:00
Since launching in May, Samsung’s Galaxy S II has been the company’s fastest selling smartphone, even without availability in the smartphone-crazed U.S. That situation is changing as Samsung announced a version for Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile earlier this month. Sprint’s edition is already for sale while T-Mobile hasn’t yet announced availability and AT&T is launching the Galaxy S II on Oct. 2. I nabbed an early review unit of AT&T’s Galaxy S II yesterday afternoon and immediately gave the handset a once over with a photo gallery. My general first impression: If you like Google Android and have or want an AT&T account, this smartphone should be at the top of your list. The 4.3-inch display is so vibrant that I tweeted this last night: “Super AMOLED Plus gives new life to old “Cheers” episodes on Netflix.” Samsung’s dual-core processor makes this phone one of the fastest Android devices I’ve ever used. Nine more Android devices pick up Hulu Plus as Netflix announces Qwikster - Android app article - Phil Hornshaw | Appolicious ™ Android App Directory

Amidst the big Internet joke that has been Netflix over the last few days, competitor Hulu has added a bunch of smartphones and tablets to the list of Android devices that will work with its streaming video app. If you’re a Netflix customer considering jumping ship, you might not be alone. The company announced this week that it would be spinning off its DVD mailing service into a new business, called Qwikster. Besides the terrible naming decision (the suffix “-ster” doesn’t really lead to a lot of successful tech businesses, it seems), Netflix failed to research the social media connections with the new name, leaving its new brand’s Qwikster Twitter account in the hands of a user whose profile picture depicts Elmo of Sesame Street smoking a joint. That might have given some of us a laugh, but the truth is that this seems to be the latest in a series Read More

Hulu Plus gets support on nine more Android devices
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Tue, 20 Sep 2011 23:34:48 UTC +00:00
Hulu Plus is adding support for nine more Android devices. No, it’s not yet universally available, but we’re a step closer to that dream. The streaming service is now available on eight new smartphones: the Motorola Droid Bionic, Motorola Droid 3, Motorola Droid X2, LG Revolution, LG G2x, HTC Incredible 2, HTC Evo 3D, and HTC Sensation 4G. The ninth device is the HTC Flyer Android tablet. Hulu is gradually expanding its list of gadgets compatible with Hulu Plus. While Hulu Plus seems to be making all of the right moves, Netflix has been making all of the wrong moves lately. It jacked up prices by a whopping 60 percent and is now spinning off the DVD service into a separate entity called Qwikster. And yes, I guarantee you will misspell that name at least once within the next few weeks. Netflix, however, recently brought full support for its streaming content to Read More

There’s something about primetime television that helps us break summer’s daze and transitions us back into a unified schedule. And even though Android has provided anytime, anywhere TV, the morning water cooler talk never fails to bring mention of last night’s episode or tomorrow’s big game. It’s easier than ever to stay caught-up with our favorite programs as premier providers launch Android apps, from Netflix to Hulu Plus, and even HBO. If you’re really into fall TV, then the TV Guide is a necessary Android app this season. It provides news, reviews and fall season lineups, with the latest updates on program changes and celebrity scoops. Even in the era of on-demand TV, it’s good to know when your favorite programs come on, and where you can find them. TV Guide makes it simple with custom provider listings, favorites, and a search tool to hone-in on exactly what you’re looking for. Read More

It's that time of year again, and whether you're packing to go back to school or packing someone else to send them off for some higher learning (and getting yourself a little peace and quiet in the bargain), you'll find Android is there ready to lend a helping hand.  Every student needs a way to connect with friends and family back home as well as tools to help them study, and Android has shaped up quite nicely and can provide both.  And you can even have a little fun with it while you're at it.  We've put together a nice little collection of apps, and the hardware we recommend to run them -- hit the break and have a look! Let's face the facts, no one wants to be the dumb one in the college conversation. By keeping dictionary.com installed on your Android device you can simply launch the app, type Read More

Worth Reading? 0 [2 votes] One of the apps that many users of Android devices were clamoring for was the Hulu Plus app allowing access to the streaming video Hulu offers on the go. The app finally came to the Android platform back in late June. The only caveat at the time was that the app was only supporting a very limited number of handsets. At launch, the app would work with the Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix smartphones. Hulu has announced today that it has added support for four more Android devices to the mix so more users can stream their favorite shows and movies. The Hulu Plus app now supports the HTC Evo 4G, HTC ThunderBolt, HTC myTouch 4G and G2 in addition to the phones supported at launch. That makes ten smartphones that will work with Read More

It’s already July. Half of 2011 has sped by, and in its wake, a huge cloud of great Android apps. Bigger developers are releasing their offerings into the Android Market more quickly than ever, and the apps themselves keep getting better too. While it’s tough to pin down all of the fantastic releases of 2011 so far, here’s a handful of notable ones. A few new Android tablets have hit the market, but none of them have lit the world on fire like Apple’s iPad yet. But, with a few more killer apps, perhaps that will change, and News360 is a step in the right direction at least. Designed specifically for tablets, News 360 aggregates the latest headlines and commentary in an aesthetically-pleasing way, making it an ideal way to keep in touch with what’s going on. With plenty of personalization options and over 1,500 sources, News360 shows the kind of Read More

Posted by Comments 7 Best Alternative Android Apps to Netflix. If you’re like me, then you’re addicted to Netflix! Their streaming service, combined with snail-mailed DVDs, Redbox, Hulu, plus the wealth of streaming content available online has made me an early adopter for connected television, which allowed me to cut the cord a long time ago. Since Netflix is slowly rolling out support for many Android devices and currently support under ten, we’ve compiled a cool list of Android apps when combined can make a nice alternative to the Netflix app for those not supported. All these apps can stream over cellular 3G & 4G or Wi-Fi for better video results. We’ve included easy one-click download links to grab these apps from the Android Market. 7. offers nearly a score of channels for content such as ESPN, ABC & Fox News, MSNBC, Lifetime, History Channel, etc.;  plus you can download TV shows and Read More

Cut the Rope: An iOS game mainstay, it's finally available on Android. And it's Free at GetJar! The premise of the game, if you've been living under a rock, is to feed Om Nom his candy by cutting ropes in strategic fashion and also gathering as many stars as you can. Trust me, it's not as boring as it sounds. You'll be addicted in no time. Free. Priority Call Filter: Priority Call Filter lets you only be bothered by the people you like. You can select exactly who you want to be available for (with certain time, day, mode restrictions) and if a person who isn't on that list tries to contact you, their calls and text are silenced. If the caller is so lucky to be on your list, the phone will ring like normal. It filters your phone calls and directs them as you set it. $1 Hulu Plus: Read More
Fresh Android Apps for June 24: Hulu Plus, Angry Birds Seasons update, JAGEN - Android app article - Ian Black | Appolicious ™ Android App Directory

It’s a big week in mobile TV for Android – the freshest entry is Hulu Plus, the website sensation that first went mobile over iPhone. Check out the mention below for more details. A big, anticipated game is the update to Angry Birds Seasons. New levels and new features make it fresh for summer. And, for those who like Labyrinth or Marble Madness, you’re in for a treat with JAGEN. Just days after the free mobile TV service called Crackle launched on Android comes the monthly subscription mobile app from Hulu.com named Hulu Plus. The app works just like the Plus service online. For $7.95, per month you gain access to the premium content from Hulu, which includes every current season’s episode of selected TV shows from ABC, FOX, and NBC like Glee, Modern Family, Family Guy, The Office, SNL, and others; old shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Miami Vice, Read More
Hulu Comes to Android
Mini_discussion_bubble ReadWriteWeb - Posted Thu, 23 Jun 2011 14:46:16 UTC +00:00
Amid rumors of a possible buyout, the popular TV and movie streaming service Hulu is at last making its Android debut as promised. Like its iPhone counterpart, the mobile app connects paying customers to the Hulu Plus service, Hulu's premium subscription-based offering. Unfortunately, not all Android devices are supported at launch. According to Hulu, the initial rollout includes only six phones: the Nexus One, the Nexus S, the HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X and the Motorola Atrix. Although the company won't say why, we expect the reason for the small lineup has to do with compatibility issues as well as a need to secure the content using digital rights management (DRM). Netflix did much of the same thing for its Android launch - only supporting 5 phones out of the gate, including the HTC Incredible, HTC Nexus One, HTC G2, Samsung Nexus S, Motorola Droid and LG Revolution. To all of you cheap cry babies, it clearly states "Subscription Required" to use this app. And yet you rate something poorly, out of spite and the fact that you think everything should be free, and you haven't even used the app. How stupid can you people get, rating something that you haven't used? And are you too retarded to read a description before you download? Your self-entitlement astounds me! I suppose if you ran a business, you'd give everything you have to pay for, away for free? And it clearly states which phones it works on, morons!
