I love taking photos wherever I go and have a particular fondness for street art, architecture, and things out of the ordinary. I carry a small point-and-shoot camera with me, but more and more, I'm reaching for my smartphone first because it's easier to share its pictures with others and also because of great apps like FxCamera. With FxCamera, you can take photos using one of five effects: ToyCam, Polandroid, Fisheye, SymmetriCam, and Warhol. A few weeks ago, I compiled a list of essential iPhone apps for people who are too busy to sift through the roughly 300,000 titles in the App Store. Browse all the mobile app coverage that has appeared in The New York Times by category, and see what Times writers have on their phones and tablets. Android users have it even worse. Although there are fewer apps to peruse (around 100,000 at last count), the Android Market is a nightmare to navigate compared with the iTunes App Store. Yes, even though Google is the master of search, its Android Market’s search feature is less effective than Apple’s. I used it at a Christmas party in office and it was great fun to be able to apply effects quickly.but the resolution its a bit low. the regular camera captures plain pictures that are just as big as the other modes. Use your phone's normal camera to click regular pictures.

Great app - took various photos with each of the available effects. Like them all but use the Toycam and Polaroid the most. Photos are clear, sharp and vivid. Easy to change modes and not miss a photo. Fun!

The photos come out nice and it is easy to use. It could be better if there're more filters though. Definately an app to get you started if you haven't downloaded any such apps yet. It does not take a long time to start up as some other similar apps, and the processing of the photos are reasonable fast.

Kinda screwy that you have to hold your phone vertical to get he Polandroid photos to look right. I hold my phone sideways/landscape when I am taking pics, and doing that makes the fake polaroids look like you held the camera sideways.

Kinda screwy that you have to hold your phone vertical to get he Polandroid photos to look right. I hold my phone sideways/landscape when I am taking pics, and doing that makes the fake polaroids look like you held the camera sideways.

Sometimes photos dont save, are lost forever. I want to like this app but it only works reliably right after a phone reboot (and I dont reboot my phone often.) Otherwise its about 50% chance that the photo will not save and its lost forever, you missed the once in a lifetime photo. For that fact alone this camera is not worth using unless you are just messing around and can retake a picture that does not save with a reliable camera app.
