Very very slow in sending and receiving messages...sometime it requires 3-4 attempts to send one line message...gtalk, whatsapp are best....

Unlike the official Facebook app, this app does me a world of good. In combination with Google Voice, anyone can ditch their carrier texting plan. My only gripe is that this is a separate app at all. Proper push support for messages needs to be built into the Facebook app. There's no need for a second app to fix the first app's limitations and issues.

It works generally fine, except when you're in a conversation the other person sees you as "online" in the chat. That would be fine if I could disable it, instead the other person keeps flooding me with messages because they think I'm online.

Works great but for some reason it sends a message to my phone when I'm typing to somebody on my computer. I don't want to hear an alert every 5 seconds when I'm on my computer.

It is a great app, but i don't recieve notifications anymore which is really bothersome. I hate that i have to keep checking and refreshing to see my messages i miss the notifications. And it says my alerts are on so i dont know why it's not working. Please please please fix this. Everything else is great though, i love the new feature of knowing when they read the message. Just please fix the notifications.

Every time there is an update to this buggy app something else stops working that they fixed in the previous version. also force closed when you try to send a new message to a contact who has not previously sent a message thats been recived by this SHODY application FIX your APPS Facebook insted of spending time buying up photo editing apps from other companies. which you will proberly end up screwing up with your clueless programmers, need to higher some new ones my nephew and his friends who are all aroud 6 years old coud program better than the monkies you currently employ.

There is no option for online to offline mode conversion. It is better for group messaging. The notification also work currectly. I request to software team to include possibility of offline mode conversation also.

The notification and alert works as in Gtalk chat. In the facebook for android, when I receive a new msg an alert is not displayed on android notification system, and that sucks, because is the only reasson that make have this app install. Only give 3 starts, because is good, but to give 5* it should be inside facebook app what works so good as here.

In settings I have "messenger location services" set to OFF. However all my comments are defaulting to "sent from near Austin"!!! This is an invasion of my privacy!

Had it, then my facebook app updated. In the update, an icon was created with access to facebook messaging. So I uninstalled this one. I didn't really like the new short cut. And then facebook updated again, and I lost all the shortcuts that came in the previous update. I reinstalled this one, and still love it!

The app will tell people who have messaged you whether or not you have read their message. There is no way to remove this option and is a serious privacy violation. Won't be using it again until this feature is removed or can be turned off.

What happened to being able to send messages to mobile contacts? None of them are showing up. Some other needed features are - Available or away statuses, silent all messages until a set time (Not just 1 hour or till 8AM), and video sharing. As for privacy issues, I guess an option to not show send receipts would satisfy people but honestly I would just be annoyed at friends who turned it off. LOL

i reinstalled it coz i find it better to use than the fb messenger shortcut. good thing fb removed those shortcuts in their recent update. this is a great app but the notification alert failed to function like it used to be. in my setting a ringtone must be played when a message arrived but it would just vibrate even though vibrate alert is deactivated. and it failed to show in the status bar that i have received a message please fix. thanks

After I recently did an update on this app I noticed that the preview screen showing when I have a new message shows all the text in a bright white color! Obviously a little hard to read :/ Once the actual app opens the text is in black however and it functions fine. Not sure if its just a glitch or a new "feature" I will just have to get used to...

What's the point of the standalone app (this app) now that it's integrated in the FB app? Do any of you that have both installed receive two notifications? (For for this app and one for FB?) Other than Sharing via "Messenger" this app is virtually unnecessary now if you have the FB app installed.

Update 12/7/11: Late notifications recently. Very smooth and easy to use This has replaced whatsapp for me. Very fast and simple. Update 12/17/11: Seems to be working fine now. In a future update I hope to see sent/delivered/read indicators. Update 5/5/12: Read receipts finally!

The app is great. I think it's awesome to have a sharing option on the shell, so you can easily share a photo right after taking it with a specific person on your list. Though it's not understandable that you can't turn it of completely, at least the notifications. It's quite boring to be chatting on the desktop and getting notifications on your phone every second.

Back button wont always take you back. Cant disable notification for unsent messages. Some messages sent will show as unsent. If someone send a message when you talk to another one you wont see that notification.

Great app much more convenient however one negative is that it displays your location to anyone your chatting to. So remember to turn this feature off manually or you will have your location displayed to people you don't neccessary want displaying to.

As of the last update, this app opens the splash screen and promptly crashes. Had to reinstall to get it working again. Facebook Messenger works with relative temporal accuracy in pushing messages to my phone. Slightly better than Facebook for Android's, but not by much.

The updates were good kind of.. the new visual design looks nice but sometimes has problems logging in, it also logs you out without hitting log out and the messages can come up late up to 5 mins even when im in a area of good connection. The facebook app works better really, it jus needs to be quicker with the messages cause im not the only one that experiences that. It works fine from time to time but it recieves AND sends messages REALLY late sometimes even wit good signal which is what they need to fix

This is a reliable and well designed app however, it is fairly power hungry. I've noticed the app uses quite a bit of data (like most apps that use push services) but this app also likes to chomp through your battery life. Hence 4 stars.

It's a great Facebook messenger app, but it should be part of the actual Facebook app. This just makes everything seperated and kind of complicated.

Only tiny issues. The messages recieve straight away, I can post messages easily (they finally widened the "Write a message" box! Its very stylish, log in is very fast! Only thing wrong is that it keeps saying "Message not sent" went it actually was sent! But otherwise it's a brilliant app.. I recommend it to every facebook lover out there! Thank you Facebook.

This app worked just fine on my HTC Incredible S, that is until I updated it today. Now it will no longer retrieve my friend list when signed into FB. Please fix this ASAP. I liked using it, but this recent problem has lowered my overall rating.

This is the worst app I've ever installed. And I always consider my network connection before assuming this. Messenger now has double the lag time (which was already 7-15 min behind) Now, it has a 20-30 min lag & notification takes longer. Constant force closing. Absolutely terrible. It's the only app I'm having trouble with.

OK, this is much better than the messaging built into the facebook app (which sucks btw) but messenger is quite slow at sending the messages so by the time they have sent, the message you're replying has gone. Also it tells me a lot that messages have not been sent when they have. Fix.

You have to press return like a 10 times before you can come out of a message and off messenger, it is delayed so when I'm already on facebook and receive a message it let's me know I had that message like 15 mins later meanwhile I have replied and had a full blown conversation since that initial message! Otherwise very handy and useful :)

Almost 5 stars from me, the only thing i could have liked to see in this app, is an alert setting possibility to have alerts on in a conversation, but instead of the whole message beeing displayed in the notification bar, only the new chat icon could pop up.. Other than that, LOVE this app!

I've been pretty happy with this app, with one small exception. This probably won't affect many people, but if you are trading messages with someone who isn't already on your friends list, you don't get a notification that the message has arrived. You can still use the app to read/reply, but only after opening it and manually refreshing the list.

Awesum...but mayb a custom easy access list 2 friends in the "new message" screen. And anothr lil detail, when browsing messages n click 1 for details n then hit back it shows most recent messages again. Means have to scroll all da way back up again.

this app is good as it lets me chat online to my facebook friends, I would have given it 5 stars if it didnt always say "couldnt connect to facebook" also, when I get a new message it takes a while for messenger to notify me in my status bar. also, in England the option to send a message via sms is not available but I would like it to be please. overall its a good app though and is worth getting.

This app makes me mad everytime i need to chat with 2+ friends, i get "not sent" errors all the time, takes too long to send messages, has a bug when trying to delete a "failed to send" message. Has a better interface than facebook main app, but its too messed up for now.

It's almost perfect app - easy to use, most of the times fast and is stable. The only things I don't like are that there isn't good synch between the platforms and the old msgs are really messed around the chat and inbox. And this app doesn't like slow 3G networks.

There's a free version too. This app works really well and I'd recommend this to anyone using a DROID X or Bionic. I know they work well on these two devices. Excellent app! Despite all of the comments saying it's useless it is not for two reasons... Firstly, message notificaions are immediate unlike the other app which takes 10mins +, and secondly it loads quicker than the other app and less time is spent getting to the messages. I find this app to be very great and useful as well, what I love most about it are the instant push notifications I get on my phone when someone sends me a message on fb. Previously I was hooked to 3rd party chat apps like Nimbuzz n eBuddy but they all seem to eat up battery life when left running 24/7 but the fb messenger app hardly consumes any batt life infact I don't see any difference at all in batt having it on or off. And for those saying they can't see online buddies, simply hit the new message icon n it will show u a list of ur regular contacts n online contacts!

Great app Works fine wid my HTC Wildfire S only prob is that messeges are sent slow. The new updte is really cool.. luv this app! Only issue is dat d app is of 2.5mb bt it consumes more than 7mb on my internal memory because of d data nd cache memory usage.. Silent when phone is on silent (i.e. not vibrate) EXCEPT when I have a conversation window open, then it vibrates on every message as if I am blind and can't see that I got a message in my foremost window. In doing so, it still disregards my phone's global setting.

I think it's a great app that is quick and reliable, integrated well with android etc however I hate how you can't change who the 'top' contacts are, you should be able to 'favourite' certain friends to be on that top list, as I really don't like seeing my ex girlfriend up there anymore!

We cannot see online friends easily, like we can see on GTalk. It's not easy to see who's online and who's not. For me it was not that user friendly, like other chat applications. I found it slow also. May be b'coz of my network. Needs a lot of improvement. Else I would have given 4 or 5 stars.

I'm not sure why this isn't incorporated into the Facebook app to replace the buggy chat system that's already there. It just seems unnecessary to have more than one app for the same social network. Overall though, this is a great app. I would give it a five star rating if there was a way to appear offline to the chat instead of it always saying you're logged in on your mobile all day long. The only option I see is to log off, but that un-synchronizes everything and I don't want to do that.

Android has a grouped contact list feature. Use it! Add Messenger to the list of options. Why add them all individually when I could just do it with a group list I've already created? That would make group messaging more efficient.

FIrst I tried to install it on my phone, it woudl fail on install over and over again. So I tried it on my tablet, really it just the messages button feature removed from the main app. Secondly I did a bit of looking found out why many can not install it, it shows up for us that have 2.1 installed but the "android:minSdkVersion" set in the manafest file is set to 8, so why show it to 2.1 users if the min is 2.2 (not facebook issue per say, a market issue)
