This is a pretty exciting time for the mobile industry, what with the iPad launch and Microsoft’s plans to create more social, app-driven devices. Android is making waves, too, with 800 million app downloads expected in the next year. We can begin to get a good grasp on what these apps will be by looking at popular Android apps now. Here are some of the week’s top Android apps: Rhapsody, always out to bring music to wherever you are, launched a well-received Android app this week. Hear chart-topping songs, your favorites, and new releases with the free Android app. Music on-demand through Rhapsody is even better with an account, as it syncs with several other devices and services. For full features, a subscription is well worth the price of $10 ($15 for the Premier Plus category). Digg disappointed with its Android app, as it lacked mobile bookmarking submission. But the new Android

Digg for Android has finally been released as a native mobile app, giving Digg users a new interface to tap into while on the go. Though not as robust as Digg’s iPhone app, the Digg Android app has a few good features. Where the Digg Android app is vastly lacking, however, is in the sharing department. As consumers use their mobile devices more and more for accessing the Web, it’s important to make media-sharing from a mobile interface quick and simple. Here are some Android apps that will help you access Digg, as well as share Web content cross-bookmarking sites: Digg’s free Android app is fairly basic, giving access to top, recent and upcoming stories on the site. You can vote, view comments and filter them by "all" or "best." While bookmarking through the phone’s "Share" mechanism is not yet available, this native Android app is far better than the third party

Arriving only a few weeks after its iPhone counterpart, a Digg app is now available for Android. The app is straight forward, showing the most dugg stories from the Digg.com website, but it delivers only the most basic experience leaving out even seemingly obvious features. The Digg app allows for browsing in only 3 categories: Top, Recent and Upcoming. Missing is the ability to browse just images, video, or news (or any number of the many categories on Digg). To add further insult to injury their is NO search feature at all. Once you choose an article or item of interest, the article loads directly with no intermediate page requiring yet another selection. I really liked that they save us the extra click here. Articles load inside of a “walled garden” in-app browser that poses a few restrictions I found annoying. You can’t pinch to zoom or double tap articles or

Last month, Internet company Digg released a free iPhone app allowing you to access and read Digg stories on the go, and now they have a free Android app, too. Both applications allow you to browse through popular and upcoming popular stories to Digg them, add comments, and read full stories in the applications' built-in browsers. You can also save stories to read later, search for any story by topic, and easily share links via Facebook, Twitter, or email. And if you have a Digg account, you're able to log in and access it directly from your phone. Get the iPhone app from iTunes, and the Android app directly from Digg or by searching in the Android Market.

Anyone still a big Digg fan? If so, you are in luck as Digg just launched their official Android app to the market. While the app is about as simple as it gets, it appears to work flawlessly. However, there is no search function, no categories, and you have to login in at the actual Digg site before you can start digging. Maybe in the next release? Check it out and tell us what you think! Following fast on the heels of the Digg iPhone app announcement last week, we are pleased to announce the availability of the official Digg Android app. Starting today, you can download the Digg Android app for free onto any Android device. There are three different ways to get the Android app: Download Digg by searching for “Digg” in the Android Market, by scanning this QR Code from your Android phone:digg_android_app_qrcode.png…or click this link directly from your device: download the Digg Android app device1.png The Digg Android app has been designed for an ideal mobile Digg browsing experience on an Android phone. You can browse and digg stories and comments, and the app supports landscape mode for browsing story titles and pages that load in the in-app browser. The Digg Android app looks great on newer Android phone models with higher resolution screens like the Nexus One and the Droid. We’re glad

Many attempts have been made by third party applications to provide Digg functionality but none have done it properly. Now Digg Inc. have decided it’s time to correct that problem and release their own application. The recently released iPhone app by Digg received great reviews and we’re hoping the Android version will be just as cool. Initial reports show some lacking functionality e.g. you can view comments in the app but you cant write your own and leave them. When you want to rate a Digg your taken to the Digg site to login instead of performed through the app. Keep up with the latest popular content on the web with Digg’s official Android app! The application allows you to participate on Digg through the digging and burying of stories and comments, while allowing you to flip back and forth between viewing story pages and comments. The FREE application is available

A few weeks after its successful iPhone app, the good folks at Digg have released a native Android app of the popular news aggregate site. “The Digg Android app has been designed for an ideal mobile Digg browsing experience on an Android phone,” Digg said on its blog. “You can browse and digg stories and comments, and the app supports landscape mode for browsing story titles and pages that load in the in-app browser.” I downloaded the program for my Droid and it looks well-done. The company says it’s optimized for the high-resolution screens of Motorola’s handset and the , so let me know how it looks on one of the wimpier Android phones. I really dig the in-app browser because it removes a lot of the friction from this type of program. Unfortunately, you can’t comment directly from the app yet but I’m sure that will come with an update.

The app supports Digg’s core functionality, including the ability to Digg and bury stories and user comments. The new application comes only a week after Digg launched its highly success native application for iPhone. Unfortunately we can’t link to the app since Google doesn’t offer an easy way to do that, but you can easily find it by opening Android Market on your device and running a search for “Digg”. Or use the QR code at the bottom of this post. Using

by Fresh off launching its iPhone app – which quickly vaulted to #1 news app in the App Store –- Digg is out today with its native application for Android. The features are quite similar to those offered on iPhone, with the ability to browse top, recent, and upcoming stories, Digg and bury stories and access the comments of each story. There’s also an in-app browser so you can read stories without leaving the Digg application, as well as a landscape mode. For a site that had no native apps as of a couple weeks ago, Digg is certainly making a quick splash in mobile. Digg for Android is free and should be available in the Android Market starting now. Here are a few screenshots:

Digg users with Android devices, who might have been jealous of Digg's recently launched iPhone/iPod app, now have one of their very own. The good news is that it's free, and has the same, simple interface as its iPhone cousin. The bad news is that it's not packing nearly as many features. Just like the iPhone app, Digg's Android app, which went live on the Android Marketplace on Friday, offers a quick way to view and sort through stories on Digg.com. Included are tabs for top, recent, and upcoming stories on Digg, as well as a way to eyeball how many comments each story has acquired. The commenting interface itself is identical in both versions, with tabs to sort between all the comments or just the best. When it comes time to read the stories linked on Digg pages, the Android version makes use of the same built-in browser as the
