Why did they get rid of the feature that lets you HEAR how the word should be pronounced?! That was the best part of the app, & now it's been replaced by "share" & "favorite" features. This is a DICTIONARY, not Facebook/Twitter!

I love this app! I have the widget set to show the word of the day to help in preparation for my GRE. And I love how you can mark favorites and search without loading the site first. The only problem I have had & has only happened once was the word of the day not showing up when I tapped it but instead a previous word I searched for. I still think this is a super convenient app especially for students.

Very precise, to the point, and easy to read. I love to use it when I need a quick definition, an alternate word (synonym) or when I'm writing to give my essays & compassions rich, refined, distinctive characteristics which, makes the words jump off the page and come to life to the reader. However, I miss the educational articles that the application provided which had snippets on several topics and events in history.

This application plus the rhyming dictionary app... equals a match made in heaven. I love to write, poetry mostly. Sometimes I get stuck on my poetry I can't come up with a rhyme so I downloaded a rhyming dictionary app then this one right after I figured I'd need it since I sometimes use the online one. Now I love using this app for any reason! They even have the word of the day section... it's good to expand your vocabulary and learn something new every day! So easy to use and it's even got a 'favorites'!

Everything is great but the UI. It is too elaborate. When I want to search a word, an additional search box appears. Why couldn't you guys just keep it simple? Make the search box an actual search box, not an icon. Makes my phone lag more. Still, it's better than Merriam-Websters so I'm giving it a 3 star. Yes it bothers me that much.

There are "better" apps than this one you certainly. They.would have to be mode verbose & slower to work with. Undoubtedly they would have a steeper learning curve. This is an elegant dictionary. There is enough of a research tool here to get you to the next stage of researching words or a word. It is easy enough fir a fourth grader to use. I would call it perfect at the price.

This app is very helpful when it comes to my english honors class. Every week we get a list of vocabulary words and a quiz on it on friday and this app helps me get the definitions quickly. Very convenient.

This is more of a suggestion to the creator(s) rather than a rating, but the words of the day tend to be useless. They don't seem to have practical applications. I'd prefer words that I can learn, enjoy, and integrate into my conversations and sound smart rather than sounding like a fool.

Superb, I especially like how it will pronounce the word when you tap the speaker & if you misspell the word it will ask "do you meen." Know if only I could find an app that would help me with sentence structure You can type in a word that is or sounds close and it will still get you the word. I just got this app and so far I'm impressed. I have a twelve year old who's constanly asking "what's that mean" or "how's that spelled" this app will drive her nuts... and free up much time for me. This app is really handy-it's simple to navigate and is also aesthetically pleasing. I often use the web version so I couldn't imagine using a different virtual dictionary/thesaurus. Of course, you need an internet connection to use this; that's the only downside. I really hope they consider making an offline version in the future so it's truly portable!

I'm 11 years old. I downloaded this application a few days ago. It's very useful at school in Science and Social Studies ( and maybe a little from Math too.) I hate using the book kind dictionary because it takes a long time to find the letter first of the word your looking for, and then searching pages for it. This is THE "common" dictonary application to have. Look no further, everything you need for referencing the English language is right here. If you don't know a word in a definition, simply click on that word and it willl open to that word's definition- like that feature. I highly enjoy using this program, however, I do agree with others, we need an offline version. I have an idea how you can price the ads, call me.

Great App for quickly referencing unknown words or words you're unsure of; it saved me several times during business meetings when those execs. use those "big words"to try & sound smart. I've used it then...(turns out lot of times they were either using the words completely wrong, or were using the words in the wrong context)! Ha! Perhaps they could take a page from this book; "(I mean App). :) The Thesorous in this App is also handy when writing memo's/e-mails, etc. - to avoid using repetative words.

Works perfectly on my samsung galaxy prevail. I really like the option to use the word of the day widget & the fact that you can press the speaker button & hear the word being pronounced correctly. And you can search it just like any normal dictionary. Doesn't take up too much space on my phone either. It would be nice if you cld set the widget to transparent, but I don't think you can.

A great app; should support SD if widget not required. Widget truncates word of the day definition. Has been stuck on 'sapid' for days now so has bugs. But still indispensable app. Update: still stuck on 'sapid'... clearing cache/data doesn't help. Reinstalled app.. widget is now occupying a 4x1 space, but only using 3. I hate that. And the word of the day no longer shows the definition!! and has an unwanted search box. Come on guys at dictionary.com... find a developer who can design! Widget is useless!

I like the functions of the new widget, but miss the design of the old one, especially seeing most of the definition without opening the app. Still a great app, but I also agree with the others who liked having the option to move to SD. Idiots who don't understand the android widget limitation shouldn't get preferential treatment over the functionality of the app!

I actually tested about five different dictionaries. I selected a handful of weird words and looked them up: bourgeoise, prosophagnosia, etc. I kept score of how many of these words each dictionary had. This one won. Plus it offers both a dictionary and a thesaurus all in one. Plus, best of all, it can pronounce the words for you and it uses real people rather than robo-readers to say them. In my test, the robo-readers reallyl mangled "bourgeoise," Dictionary.com said it right.
