card.io, mobile commerce company which we’ve already covered in the past, released an Android SDK, enabling developers making apps for Google’s mobile platform to easily accept credit card payments. If you don’t know what card.io is all about, you should know that it allows consumers to take a picture of their credit card to process payments, without any extra hardware. Since its iOS platform launch in June over 80 apps have integrated the card.io SDK, with more than 750 new developers signed-up. Among the apps that already use card.io’s service are Venmo, a social payments platform, Merchant Billing, a billing, payments and processing company; and Qthru, a retail application that is geared toward improving the way people shop. Card.io, the mobile commerce company started by two former AdMob employees, Mike Mettler and Josh Bleecher Snyder, is launching a software development kit (SDK) for Android today. The SDK for iOS launched in June, allowing mobile app developers to retrieve credit card information from cards held up in front of the phone’s camera. As of today, the company says that card.io is up-and-running in 80 iOS applications, with 750 developers in total having signed up for the service. The idea behind card.io is to make the experience of paying for items on mobile easier and faster. Instead of having to manually type in your credit card information, including expiration dates and the CVV code from the back of the card on tiny mobile keyboards, card.io users simply hold up their cards to their phone to pay for purchases. The solution has appeal across industries, including everything from e-commerce to ticketing to daily deal

Working really well! I was surprised as my card is white. The digits are not really easy to distinguish, but it worked like a charm!

Does not work on LG Optimus T I click the "Scan A Credit Card Button" and text boxes for card number, expiry date, CVV and zip code pop up along with the swype (or android) keyboard. I can't even enter data in the text boxes. I like the idea. I'd love to see it work.
