The quite decent BBC News Android app has been updated by the Beeb’s technical team today, with the latest version of the app including Home screen widgets – big and small (below left) – for even quicker access to facts about world events. You’re also able to shuffle the order in which the categories within the main app itself appear, plus – hooray! – the ability to move the app to SD card is now present… ..although if you do choose to move the app to SD card, the widget functionality will disappear, due to Google’s rules about widget operation. There’s also a new “Send to BBC News” option in the menu, if something amazing has just happened in your vicinity. The updated BBC News app is on the Market here – we think this is a UK-only release for the time being, as the international edition of the app still

It's that time of the week again, the time everyone looks forward to, where we give you all the good apps to download on your device. Hit the break with us and take a look at some of our picks from this past week, and hopefully some of them will become your favorites as well. OK, I’ll be honest: I don’t exercise nearly as much as I should. Heck, if there isn’t a cheeseburger incentive, I won’t do it all. But on the rare occasion that I feel energized enough to get off my couch and go for a run, I love CardioTrainer Pro. It’s got a ton of cool features: in-app music player, GPS route tracking, an exercise scheduler for each day of the week, and a nifty planner to plot your weight-loss goals on a long-term basis. It’s got a widget for your homescreen that shows your calorie-burning

It's that time of the month again, which is to say it's time to clean up our list of the absolute best Android apps. What new apps will show up? Which apps get cut? Note: These are the apps that have been added or removed to our massive list of best Android apps during the month of June. Added: Google+: It's Google's big soiree into social "sharing". The app has it all: a stream that shows what your friends are talking about (like Facebook), Huddle which is an easy to set up group chats (like GroupMe) and will even automatically upload the pictures you take on your phone to the cloud (like iCloud). Once you get a Google+ invite, one of those features will pull you in. Lightbox: Lightbox is a stylish camera app that's good enough to replace the stock camera app. Though it doesn't have basic features like

Postagram: It's a service that prints and ships your Facebook photos or pictures from your photo library as postcards. It only costs $1 to print and ship picture anywhere to the world. A pretty clever way to deliver that print touch in a digital world. Free Prox: A genuinely clever app, Prox can control your Android phone without ever touching the touchscreen. The way it works is that the accelerometer determines how you hold the phone (left, right, toward, away) and can associate an action for the grip. You trigger that action by waving your hand over the proximity sensor. So you can load apps, change ringer mode, open notifications, turn off the screen, etc with a simple wave of the hand. It could prove useful in cold weather situations or if you want to pretend you have wizard powers. Faces: A silly app that combs through your address book's contacts

A couple of weeks ago the BBC released its first app designed specifically for Android phones, but there was one problem - it was for residents of the UK only. Fortunately, though, an app was released this morning that caters to the rest of the world. It looks and functions just like its UK counterpart, offering a nice, clean UI. You can easily share stories through various social mediums, email, and SMS, listen to BBC World Service radio live, watch videos, and personalize your home screen so you get only the news that your interested in as soon as you launch the app. BBC New Worldwide is available in the Android Market for free. Brilliant until the ads turned up. Uninstalling now. Shame.

"double tapping" no longer zooms the page, unable to copy text, larger than normal ads. Disappointing.

Ads are now far too intrusive, makes visible area for news story too small and difficult to use. Uninstalling.
